SINGLE REVIEW | BLAIR DAVIE | PRAGUE
Discovery Music Scotland
by Kyri Antholis
20h ago
Blair Davie, a singer-songwriter born and raised in Perth and now based in London, released their new single “Prague” on the 24th of April. The song highlights Davie’s songwriting, vocal, and emotional capabilities, reminiscent of the likes of Lewis Capaldi, James Bay, and Dermot Kennedy. The production on the track has found a satisfying middle ground between their most recent EP release in November 2023, Piano Sessions, and their prior, more upbeat, EP It’ll Be Lovely.  The track begins as a slow piano ballad, opening with Davie’s smooth voice singing We could go to Prague – such a tant ..read more

GIG REVIEW | ANDRE RIEU | OVO HYDRO 20.04.2024
Discovery Music Scotland
by Ryan Steele

I don’t use the word perfection often, but what I witnessed on this night, was perfection. We were invited down to the OVO Hydro in Glasgow and took our seats. Bang on 7:30pm the lights dimmed and it began. I wasn’t sure what we had signed ourselves up as the venue filled with ‘Entry of The Gladiators’. Out came our musical magicians from the back of the crowd. Andre Rieu leading the pack and his Johann Strauss Orchestra marching right behind him. The men all done up in tailcoats, and the women looking much like Disney duchesses in their vibrant princess ball gowns. Now that all 60 members are ..read more

Glasgow’s Diving Horse have just recently released their newest single I Don’t Need The Lord, where they explore the sounds of indie pop ballads that intertwine through thoughtful lyricism. I Don’t Need The Lord ultimately reflects a theme that entices a disco dance style, which fully immerses you with every listen. The band outline that the single “is about being a bit retro” which undeniably meets the mark as it fully transports you into an 80’s disco diverting you with the nostalgic sounds of dance punk. This release identifies why Diving Horse are so unique, making this single a fresh addi ..read more

I’ve been lucky enough to chat to Crispian Mills of Kula Shaker before they set off on their UK tour. We spoke about the new tour and their new album ‘Natural Magick’ which came out start of February this year. Your new album ‘Natural Magick’ has been out for couple months now, has there been a good reaction from your fans? The fans seem to like it, I think we all are pretty excited about it and we knew it had a lot of energy, there is a lot of that chemistry of being reunited with Jay, feeling of going back to our roots in terms of that original four people, that unit, so much of a band is ab ..read more

“A track I’ve had on repeat since its release. “ Glasgow quintet Pedalo return with their fourth single, and their second of 2024. Following on from recent track ‘Mystery‘, latest track ‘Lighter‘ hopes to add to the success, acclaim and popularity of previous 2023 tracks ‘Halfway House‘ and ‘Better‘. While ‘Lighter‘ plays for an average duration of three and a half minutes, it is definitely not an average song. One of the main things about Pedalo that stands them apart from other local and emerging talents is their versatility. With each of the four singles currently released, there are a rang ..read more

On a rainy night in the Scottish capital, the beautiful Voodoo Rooms hosted two sets full of immense talent. Gig Review | Casey Mcquillen @ The Classic Grand
Discovery Music Scotland

Personally, I love seeing the first European and UK headline shows of international artists and I’ve had the pleasure to witness a bunch but this show felt a lot more personal. Casey, being already an established artist in the USA and opening for multiple big artists in Europe and the UK, shared that she was really comfortable being the opener, but tonight was different for her as it was her first headline gig of her headline tour and it was a really special moment. There was no high stage, no restrictions for photography and no barriers and all of that made the show feel free flowing, intimat ..read more
