Thanks for being a part of the Alice Springs Community Garden. We are doing all that we can to ensure the Gardens can continue to play a role in our community’s resilience and vibrancy.
As you may be aware, the Federal Government has given a number of directives in regards to physical distancing, hand washing and gatherings in public places among others. These all have impacts on how the gardens can operate.
Please abide by these new precautions:

Autumn is here and the heat surely hasn’t left but we are almost on the home stretch.
Hannah Maljcov has taken over the Plot Holders Rep role from Philippe, a long standing member of the Community Garden and the person behind organisation of plot holders for the past three years. Thanks Phillipe!
Just a reminder the Garden is a volunteer-run-initiative so sometimes things can be slow, but it’s so empowering to know we can run such an amazing garden with the power of freely giving people. We would also like to thank Anna Madabushi for all the work she did last year in communications ..read more

For me summer days are tied to hot white sands and welcoming cool blue seas, yummy cherries and the delicious taste and aromas of summer fruits and veggies. Here in Alice there’s a strong desire to hide inside from the mid-day sun but much to enjoy outside in the cool of the mornings and the early evenings in shaded garden areas. Unfortunately our plants can’t retreat inside but shade cloth is their next best thing. Fortunately our Garden watering system provides our soils with life preserving moisture for those tough times and mulch and plenty of organic humus help too! We can’t have it ..read more

It’s important to us all that we can identify with and feel a part of communities of people with whom we share common interests and important values. I’d assume that we all share a love of nature and a passion for natural foods, gardens and gardening. Over the past few years, so many people have reported that they feel a sense of joy as they pass by or wander through our community garden. We are all enjoying and contributing to a sense of pleasure and well-being and, as evidence strongly suggests, long term better health for many in the Alice Springs community who fee ..read more

Over the last few months we’ve had a growing number of visits from school classes, which most children appear to love, not least the mulberry experience at present. We’re excited to continue to offer the Garden as a community teaching and learning resource and an example of the joys, challenges and beauty of gardens and nature. Success hasn’t come without thought and effort though as we’re constantly striving to keep the Garden interesting, healthy and productive.
To a significant degree we rely on all our plot holders to keep their plot plantings rotating and on the move. And to assist ..read more

The Garden held a highly successful Open Garden Thursday evening 18th May with around 100 visitors enjoying great music, food and tours between 5pm and 7pm. It set a precedent that we’ll be pleased to repeat in a few months’ time. Warm thanks to all who helped with the promotion and catering to make it such a fun event. Was great too to have been able to ‘open’ our solar pergola in style.
The Garden’s Community plots and many private plots are thriving in the late autumn heat and it’s still not too late to get winter seedlings planted and established before the frosts hit, presumably wit ..read more
