Floorball is a new skill for many. Depending on where you live you may have participants who’ve never touched a hockey stick, or anything like it before. If you do have participants with skill there’s always more that can be learned to make improvements. If you’re like me most of the players you come across are complete beginners. Where I live in Washington State that is more the norm so I make sure to approach it accordingly. Regardless of your players abilities don’t worry too much about it. If you’re teaching them they’ll get grow in their ability over time. When starting out it won’t ..read more

Whether it’s in the winter or summer, camps play an important role in the world of recreation. Camps provide many benefits to kids by keeping them active, learning and developing skills, learning social norms, and staying active.  When you boil it down to the core need, camps are basically daycare. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. Camps provide a wonderful service to the parents as much as they bring value to kids. Most programs have their traditional camp programs that include water sports, gymnastics, multi-sport and sport specific camps. If you’re looking to run a camp there ..read more

If it was possible to take a look and see the future it would be interesting, especially now, to see what sports would look like. What things would have changed in the next 5, 10, or even 20 years from now? Will certain powerhouse sport still dominate? Will others rise to take their place? I’ve said this for years and will continue to believe it. Floorball is coming and is primed to make an impact. There’s something with the sport that if done right will make a huge impact. If we look at the development right now it could be the start. The North American Floorball League has potential, and we ..read more

Floorball is a business. The biggest potential market out there right now for the sport? The youth sport market. Youth sports has evolved into a behemoth that is valued at a multi-billion dollar business model. What we’ve seen in the market over the past few years is a slight shift in interest. The brunt of the market is focused on more traditional sports such as basketball, soccer, football, hockey, and baseball respectively. However, the market is seeing some changes due to a number of factors including rising costs to participate, more emerging sports such as rugby, lacrosse, and more sophi ..read more

Too often in business we don’t work to help each other. The feeling is that it’s always one against the other. Beat the competition. So on and so on it goes. One of the things that we’ve strived to do at Floorball Guru is to provide resources to help others. What they choose to do with that information is up to them. We’ve been transparent in what we do and how we do it. We’ve made no secret about it in the hopes of helping others get started. Frankly, the more people and businesses in the sport the better. A big part of building anything is succeeding and failing. In both of those things come ..read more

Start a business they say. It’ll be fun and easy. Ok, whoever says that is clearly lying to you, though hopefully it’ll be fun, it certainly won’t be easy. Some of the key components to the process is branding. Not just coming up with a log but thinking through every aspect of what you’re doing to represent your brand. That matter a lot. If you’ve been following me over the years, you know that I’m passionate about Floorball, and getting kids engaged in the sport. This is not a sport that I grew up playing, though I wish I had. I came to the sport later in life, but I see what it is and what i ..read more

Everyone starts somewhere. It’s easy to look at what other people are doing and feel like you’re not able to move forward. Too often we spend our time comparing what we don’t have instead of looking at what’s available. For many there are a number of excuses not to do something. When it’s starting something new, the excuses range from lack of funds, lack of knowledge, or lack in place to play. That last part is one of the more challenging parts, and by far the most important. Without a place to play you can’t do a lot. However, if you lack a facility there are always options available if you’r ..read more

As part of my Floorball journey I’ve been blessed and fortunate to have some amazing experiences. Starting a business has been a great part of that journey. The top moments, and ones I’ll always cherish are getting to represent USA as a player on the Men’s team and as coach of the U19 Women’s Team. Both opportunities to represent my country came out of somewhat random circumstances. For the Men’s team it was a call for players interested to play. Upon selection I trained and traveled to Latvia. If you haven’t been I highly recommend. It was an amazing event playing in the Riga Cup. That trip w ..read more
