BENCHMADE BUGOUT SURE TO BECOME A FAVORITE
Sometimes one is enough. Lately, I’ve been carrying a Benchmade Bugout, the company’s latest, the 535BK-4 model. To make sure I was giving it a thorough test, this slim folder was the only EDC knife I carried over a period of several weeks.
What I found with this Bugout is that it ably handled every job I called on it to do. Not once did I wish I had more knife or a different knife. Benchmade has produced the Bugout in several iterations since 2017, offering it with different blade steels and handle composition. If you really want it your way, now you ..read more

Dwayne Unger has been a knife maker for only three years, but the 45-year-old Pennsylvania native is already forging a name for himself in the industry.
In this ‘meet the maker’ interview, we take an inside look at Unger‘s quest for excellence.
Where It Began
When I was growing up, I spent a lot of time at my grandparents’ farm. Of course, we had pocket knives, so I’ve always had an interest in knives as tools.
In 2012, I took a bushcraft survival course at the Wilderness Learning Center. As a result, I got more interested in knives and what they could do. I also learned the importance of havi ..read more

Want to make your folder looking and feeling like new or even better than new? Brush up on your knife maintenance skills.
Folding knives can be many things. They can be tools, weapons, fidget-toys or even just nothing more than fancy pocket jewelry to show off to your friends. But at the heart of it all, they are mechanical objects. They are machines to an extent, after all.
I’m a fan of almost anything mechanical. Old cars, old typewriters, bicycles and especially pocket knives. I also try to make sure that I at least have a rudimentary knowledge of how to disassemble and maintain most of the ..read more

You can never be 100% prepared for an unprovoked attack, but you can help even the odds a bit. Whether someone is out to just steal from you, or commit far greater crimes, having a concealed knife within arm’s reach will throw a surprising wrench into your assailant’s malicious plans.
You can carry an EDC knife at various locations throughout your body (review local carry laws). From a belt clip behind your back to a chain hanging around your neck, to simply stuffing it into your pocket, having a blade accessible at the first sign of danger ..read more

THIS COLD STEEL FOLDER WITH NEW ATLAS LOCK IS ONE ROCK-SOLID KNIFE You won’t have to baby this knife.
I was anxious to get my hands on the Cold Steel 3.5” Engage for a couple of reasons. For one, I have been a longtime fan of the company’s fixed-blade knives, namely the SRK, AK-47 Field Knife, Recon Scout, and, of course, the legendary Trail Master.
But my experience with Cold Steel folders was rather limited. I’ve had the drop-point Ultimate Hunter with Tri-Ad lock for several years and it’s one of my favorite folders for time in the woods. There were a couple of others I liked, t ..read more
