Hi friends! Skay here. I wanted to hop on and write a little blog post about some things I wish I knew before I had my wedding. Let's face it, planning a wedding can be SO overwhelming! I hope this post can help prepare you as you begin to plan one of the best days of your life. The first thing couples always consider before making any huge decisions is their budget. I put myself on a tight budget because I didn't want my parents to have to spend a lot of money right around Christmas. (My wedding was in December 2019!) This was kind of tough situation because I know my parents would have gon ..read more

Don't do the same old sparkler photography exit like everyone else!

Being in the wedding industry for 5 years now, I've seen couples do the sparkler exit about 1,000 times. And... it gets a little... shall we say... cliche`? Don't get me wrong, I love a beautiful exit, and it makes for great photos! BUT there are other ways to do it that will make your day feel unique and help your guests feel like they haven't just happened upon the groundhog day of weddings. Plus, if you haven't paid for your photographer to be at the wedding the entire time, doing the exit earlier in the day is better. Here are some unique types of exit/entrance photo moments: Flower petal ..read more

We all could use a little joy right now. In the midst of the pandemic, I’ve found that I’m really blessed compared to some business owners. Most of my weddings are after May, and all shoots I have between now and then have been rescheduled by clients and not just *cancelled*! I feel wildly supported by my loved ones and clients right now. It’s really important that we support each other in this time and do our part to keep the U.S. economy up. Here are a few ideas for how to help small business owners: • Don’t cancel, reschedule! • Consider still paying for their services, even if you’ve resch ..read more

How to have an AWESOME wedding reception! (From a wedding photographer)

I've put together a few tips for how to have an AWESOME wedding reception. Take it from a professional wedding goer! - Keep the music going! Don't let there be any quiet moments. - Live music = bonus points. - Make sure you pick great dance songs that most people know and have your DJ stick to a specific list! - If you have an emcee, pick one that will happily engage with your guests and has an upbeat personality! Also, check their contract on whether they will be drinking from the bar or not. (I've seen a few drunk emcee's in my day. Trust me, it's really not pretty.) - Your guests probably ..read more

If you've paid attention to the fashion trends at all lately, you've noticed that hair scarves are making a comeback. I recently picked up a few at H&M. Fast fashion heaven, I know. However, according to Good On You, "H&M has pledged to become 100% ‘climate positive’ by 2040 by using renewable energy and increasing energy efficiency in all its operations." (2019) Some things just can't be made or bought elsewhere at such a great price point. The first scarf is a giant art deco zebra print in cream, navy, and orange. I paired it with my gray UO sweater, gold jewelry, black jeans, and t ..read more
