Polk County residents received a total of $101,313,004 through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) during 2023, according to data from Iowa's Department of Human Services.
This translates to a 10% decrease in the amount of money allocated through the food assistance program in 2023, compared to 2022, when residents in the county received $112,543,740.

There were six companies in cities associated with Polk County, Iowa, that received six FDA inspections in the third quarter of 2023, according to reports from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
This is a 50% increase over the number of companies inspected in the previous quarter, when four companies received four inspections.
Most of the companies inspected at the time were involved in the Food and Cosmetics sector. Both the Veterinary and Biologics sectors sectors tied for second most common type.
