After dropping a 5-2 game to No. 1 Texas on Friday, Iowa State looked to potentially steal a game away in its doubleheader clash with the Longhorns on Saturday. But just like Friday, the Cyclones struggled to get runs across the plate while struggling to keep the Texas offense in check. Tampa slides to Baltimore in fourth round of NFL Draft

After not hearing his name called during the first two days of the 2024 NFL Draft, former Cyclone cornerback T.J. Tampa was selected 130th overall by the Baltimore Ravens where he will look to climb the depth chart. Despite entering the draft as one of the top corners, Tampa was the 16th corner to be taken in the draft, and third in the fourth round. Tampa will join one of the top defenses in the NFL as a member of the Ravens. The Cyclones continued to impress during the third day of the Drake Relays, alongside a handful of athletes who traveled to Palo Alto, California, to compete in the Payton Jordan Invitational. After Dana Feyen’s big win in the 10,000-meter run Thursday, the Cyclones continue to impress during Friday’s field events and long-distance runs in Des Moines, Iowa. Iowa State lost to high-powered No. 1 Texas 5-2 Friday in the first matchup of a three-game series in Austin, Texas. Texas entered the day with a nine-game win streak, including two wins against then-No. 1 Oklahoma. Iowa State entered with a 10-game losing streak to the Longhorns, and the 5-2 loss extended it to 11. The Cyclones totaled four hits Friday, three of which came in the sixth inning. The Cyclones continued their performances in the Drake Relays on Thursday with the women’s heptathlon. To go along with the women’s heptathlon, the Cyclones also had athletes in the women’s 800-meter and the women’s 10,000-meter. In the women’s 10,000-meter, Iowa State senior Dana Feyen won the event with a time of 33:51.54. Following a strong performance on the first day of the women’s heptathlon, the three Iowa State athletes had mixed results on the final day of the competition. Regent David Barker pushed back on a regents admission study team report that recommended the Classic Learning Test (CLT) should not be included in calculating regent admission index (RAI) scores of prospective students.  The CLT is a college entrance test accepted by 250 colleges and universities, including six in Iowa. All the schools in Iowa accepting it for admission are religiously affiliated. Iowa State enters a three-game series against SEC-bound, No. 1-ranked Texas on Friday, Saturday and Sunday for its last out-of-state trip of the season. The Cyclones have won their last two games, the most recent being a 12-7 victory against St. Thomas at home Tuesday.
