On 28th April Ascendis Pharma announced the exciting news that the MHRA had approved their new parathyroid hormone ‘Yorvipath’ specifically as a treatment for chronic hypoparathyroidism in adults in the UK.

In November, Mandy Mainland (hypopara) and Caroline Fryer (hyperpara) exhibited at the annual British Endocrine Society conference in Glasgow where we had been invited to speak for the first time about our work and the impact of living with Primary Hyperparathyroidism.
Caroline gave an engaging and comprehensive talk which was very well received.

In June 2023, Tania Gelmetti, our in-house nutritionist and hypopara patient, undertook a research project for her Master’s degree on symptom management in people with hypoparathyroidism. As far as we know, this is the first study to look specifically at diet in hypoparathyroidism.
Tania surveyed our community and compared the frequency and severity of symptoms in people on calcium supplements and those who only used food sources of calcium. The results have been fascinating and clearly show the need for further research into this subject.

We were invited to exhibit for the first time at the World Cancer for Thyroid Cancer in London on 16th & 17th June where we were represented by Deputy CEO Lucy Weigall and, for the first day, her first time at conference, committee member Sasha Marshom. Thank you both!
