Someone Else Has Pissed My Jeans is the latest single from Hastings’ hardcore doom-mongers Haest. This is the third single from their upcoming album Belabour, which is due for release on TNSRecords and No Time Records on 13 January 2023. Haest’s song titles famously come from an ever-growing bank of quotes, collected from friends and band members. The latest single is no exception, and the accompanying video is a further example of the undercurrent of humour that is intrinsic to their dark, coarse musical stylings. The video sees the band bedecked in corpse paint, collecting prize tickets in a ..read more

Written by Sarah Williams. Cover photo: Fatalist by Hold My Pint Photography. It’s reached that time of year when the music geeks among us get nostalgic. We start obsessively analysing and categorising the year’s musical experiences. We make lists upon lists upon lists, revisit all the records we’ve forgotten to listen to, and critically dissect the noises we love so much. Album of The Year articles are springing up all across the world wide web but first: let’s consider the best live shows of this year. 2022 has been an interesting year for live music. The music industry was forced to shut up ..read more

Premiere: Goo ‘Call In Sick’ & Release New Single &Video
Shout Louder

Call In Sick is the latest single from North West indie-pop lovelies, Goo. We’re excited to share their latest video single with you – a ray of audio sunshine on this drab Monday morning. We all need to Call In Sick sometimes. Goo has taken that morning-malaise feeling we’re all too familiar with it, and translated it into song form. Whilst Goo are typically fans of a no-budget video, they splurged on this extravagant bit of film. They splashed out on a few pints and a takeaway for a day-drinking session around Keighley and Saltaire in West Yorkshire. In true DIY punk style, the band filmed th ..read more

Podcast: Tim Loud Retrospective

This is a special episode of the Shout Louder Punk Podcast, delving deep into the history of Tim Loud. This anti-folk hero is calling time on his solo career, so we reflected on ten years of touring and six releases. I’m particularly proud of this episode. It’s a rare opportunity to hear a truly honest, in-depth account of what it’s like to grow in the DIY music community. From folk and blues roots, through speed and valium trials on the road, to recovery and recuperation – Tim Loud gives us an open account of how he’s developed both as a musician and as a person. This isn’t the end for Tim Lo ..read more

This episode of the Shout Louder Punk Podcast features Jordan Harris and Conor Yates from London/Kent punk rockers, SKIV. Sarah talks to them about their newly released album No Context Bangers. The three discussed SKIV’s development as a band, the fine work of producer Daly George and some of the best up-and-coming punk rock bands. Recorded in the back of a hot, sweaty tour van, this episode is also a great example of DIY music in action. The band were out on their album release tour with Greek punks The Overjoyed, so Jordan and Conor give us an accurate rundown of service station joys. We al ..read more

Interview: Other Half – Still Having A Laugh, Forever & Amen
Shout Louder
by Sarah Williams

Other Half are a trio from Norwich that toes the line between post-punk and post-hardcore, twinning enthralling guitars with percussive and forthright vocals. Think Pixies meets Fugazi meets Les Savy Fav, tumbled in the dark stew of 21st-century malaise. We spoke to Cal and Sophie (Soapy), earlier this year, discussing the release of their debut album Big Twenty. Since then they’ve completed a UK tour with fuzz-loving contemporaries Cultdreams and they’ve released a tense split EP with Negative Measures. If Other Half isn’t on your radar yet, this is your time to get to know them. Other Half h ..read more

Gig Review: Descendents @ Kentish Town Forum, London [11/06/2022]

Words by Sarah Williams. Photos by Roberto Gasparro. Photos by Roberto Gasparro. A sea of Milo and Black Flag t-shirts have converged on the exit to the Northern Line at Kentish Town, so it must be time for Descendents. A pilgrimage for many punk rockers, this is their first London date since their last gig at The Forum in 2017.  I’m insistent that we make it in time for all the support acts and, on seeing Last Hounds, I’m so glad I did. They’re ferociously energetic and heavy as hell; I can feel the floor shaking under my feet with the force of the bass. The comparisons to Gallows are o ..read more

Shout Louder

The hype for Outbreak Fest 2022 is huge; it’s been the hottest news on the lips of everyone with a hint of hardcore in their blood for the last few months. Three full days of heavy punk, hardcore, thrash and alt-rock in Manchester over July 24th-26th – plus a pre-show gig on July 23rd – Outbreak have compiled a colossal line-up to celebrate their 10-year anniversary. Whilst everyone’s buzzing for headliners (Turnstile who? Never heard of them) each day includes an enticing roster of artists to discover: some new, some reinvented, some well-established. I’m stoked for bands like Drug Church, An ..read more

Gig Review: Bruise Control & Sniff @ Manchester & Wigan [27+28/05/22]

It’s not often that a tour rolls through town where you’re determined to go see not one, but two dates. I’d have seen all eight if I could have. Bruise Control and Sniff are the two hottest tickets in the UK DIY punk scene right now so, for me, it’s a no brainer to travel to both the Wigan and Manchester gigs on their ‘Your Want To See The State of Our Tour’ jaunt. Friday night is at The Boulevard in Wigan, which is as new to me as a pie barm. The basement venue is surprisingly cavernous and filled with people wearing Bruise Control t-shirts. Future Selves open the show – apparently, it’s thei ..read more

This week’s guest is the infamous Tommy Morris from Bruise Control and Terrorpins! Bruise Control are a new garage punk band from Manchester who have garnered a lot of well-deserved hype. They’re about to be unleashed upon their first UK tour, in the company of Sniff, one of the UK punk scene’s most exciting new acts. To celebrate, Sarah decided to chat to Tommy about all things touring. Tommy’s been playing in DIY bands since he was a teenager and has a wealth of stories, experience and anecdotes … but instead of discussing music, we went on a rant about Christmas presents and homophobic song ..read more
