Between now and the end of 2026, around 150 new plug-in hybrid vehicles will be available in US dealerships. That might be a record-breaking expansion for the industry – and a record-breaking chance for you to either locate the right EV or become hopelessly overwhelmed. The 18 plug-in cars listed below are the ones I’m most excited to see in 2023 since they’re likely to have an impact on the electric car scene. This list contains pure electrics and hybrids, but doesn’t delve into the weeds on range, since it’s getting less different between pure electric vehicles at around 225-300 miles, whi ..read more

Rivian is recalling its R1T and R1S electric trucks, as well as its EDV electric vans, due to the possibility of a loose fastener, which might cause a loss of control. The California-based manufacturer underlines that the issue is unusual and has only been noticed in seven cars, but the recall effort includes nearly all of the electric trucks developed by the EV maker—about 13,000 vehicles, including 12,212 that have been delivered to customers. “As of September 28, 2022, Rivian became aware of seven reports potentially connected to this issue that had accumulated during Rivian car manufactu ..read more

Despite what Tucker Carlson and other Republican lawmakers claim, battery-powered Teslas, Fords, and Volkswagens are not likely to overwhelm the US electrical system. Skeptics of electric vehicles rejoiced last month when California’s utilities advised users to save power amid a blistering heat wave by not charging their vehicles during specific hours. Some conservatives questioned how the state intended to phase out combustion-engine vehicles by 2035 if it couldn’t handle the current number of EVs on the road. Carlson slammed electric vehicles on his Fox News broadcast as a “new method to o ..read more

Unlike most competing manufacturers, Tesla has already removed radar and is relying on cameras for its sophisticated driver-assist systems   Tesla took a risk by deleting radar from its vehicles in favor of its new camera-based vision-only Tesla Vision strategy. People thought it was a horrible idea that couldn’t be done, yet it didn’t take long for safety agencies to evaluate and certify the vision-only capabilities. Tesla has now indicated that it would go even farther with the vision-only arrangement by removing ultrasonic sensors from its vehicles. Tesla will almost probably meet opp ..read more

Long stretches of highway and many communities across the United States lack the charging infrastructure required for electric vehicles to thrive — and data analyzed by CNN shows that metro areas are ahead of states with smaller populations in the central and western United States, such as Montana, Wyoming, and the Dakotas. It’s a problem that’s becoming more pressing. On Thursday, New York became the second state, after California, to limit gas-powered vehicle sales by 2035. People are buying electric vehicles in greater numbers than ever before — monthly sales are nearly quadruple what the ..read more

The US Department of Transportation said on Tuesday that it has authorized electric car charging station plans for all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, totaling almost 75,000 miles of highway. As part of a bipartisan infrastructure plan earlier this year, the Biden administration gave $5 billion to states to install EV chargers along interstate roads over a five-year period.
