ERE Research has arrived in Australia with a considerable range of cycling products. The 28mm tubeless-ready Genus CCX tyres are well worth having a look at. Light, fast, and with surprisingly supple road feel they have got me thinking about tyre selection… again.   Product Review by Rob Arnold   It took only a few kilometres for me to reach a conclusion about a tyre swap that I was originally hesitant to do. The ERE Research Genus CCX tyres, 28mm with tan sidewalls, are fantastic! Faster with less effort, certainly in a straight line. That was an early thought, but it took a bit lo ..read more

Went for a ride. To the north. After one down-and-up along Bobbin Head Road in Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park – with most of the ‘traffic’ fellow cyclists – I decided to just keep going down and up, down and up… etc, until the call to get back home came. That’s what I did. I collected plenty of footage along the way and I think it is a great showcase of a great place to ride a bike.   This is the story of my ride from Saturday morning 13 April 2024.     By the way, this might actually be the 250th upload in the #StoryOfMyRide series. It shows Bobbin Head, a place I ride to of ..read more

GoPro needs no introduction to anyone who has tried to capture bike rides on video. The cameras have evolved year on year, and the latest offering – the Hero12 Black – is now being used for the #StoryOfMyRide series on YouTube. This is an overview of my experiences during the first weeks with the GoPro Hero12.   – Story by Rob Arnold   In a recent feature about riding the Thredbo Valley Track in the Snowy Mountains I offered some details of products I use while filming while on the bike. Given that this particular ride included the use of a few new products from the GoPro catalogue ..read more

The Snowy Mountains provides a stunning backdrop – and glorious trails – for a great gravel bike ride while testing several GoPro cameras and experimenting with a range of different angles…   – Story and video by Rob Arnold     After the heat of summer and before the snow begins to fall in the Kosciuszko National Park comes that glorious time of the year for cycling in the NSW Snowy Mountains. In February, I discovered Mill Cabin built by former pro cyclist Trent Lowe and his partner Niki Fisher. During my first two-night stay at this fantastic base for a holiday I took my roa ..read more

Philipsen wins his first Monument in a photo finish from Matthews

It ended in a sprint as Milan-Sanremo so often has, but this was no ordinary edition of the longest of cycling’s Monuments: 288km raced at a record average speed of 46.11km/h! Jasper Philipsen got the spoils but Michael Matthews can be pleased with his comeback from illness to claim second place ahead of Tadej Pogacar.   By Rob Arnold (Photos: Stefano Sirotti)   “I’m happy with the podium, but being so close, it’s bittersweet.” Michael Matthews can rightly consider his second place in the 115th edition of Milan-Sanremo as a conquest. Beaten in a sprint against one of the fastest me ..read more

The Australian road race champion Luke Plapp finished second in stage four of Paris-Nice on a day that included plenty of climbing and an uphill finish at Mont Brouilly. The 23-year-old began the race with GC aspirations… and his ambitious, attacking attitude has earned him a stint in the yellow jersey. By Rob Arnold (Photos via ASO)   Luke Plapp is taking on some of the world’s best in the 82nd edition of Paris-Nice and in stage four he demonstrated that he has what it takes to lead GC. With a second place behind the Colombian climber Santiago Buitrago (Bahrain Victorious) the Australia ..read more

Tirreno-Adriatico Time Trial Gallery: product innovation on display

The first Italian WorldTour stage race of the season is currently being contested. On day one of Tirreno-Adriatico, Juan Ayuso beat Filippo Ganna by one second in a 10km time trial when plenty of tech innovation was on display. Photos by Stefano Sirotti   The obvious talking point of the opening stage of Tirreno-Adriatico in 2024 was helmets. Or, rather, the extreme style of the helmets worn by riders from the Visma-Lease A Bike team. Giro is the new helmet sponsor of the Dutch team and the oversize ‘Aerohead 2.0’ was difficult to ignore, even if the aerodynamic benefits of the oversize ..read more

Here is a video with an explanation of the bike I ride, what I wear, and the camera equipment I use. The aim is to make it a regular series: ‘what I ride with’. Click play on the link below and find out more… Video by Rob Arnold   The #StoryOfMyRide begins with a confession to my bike: ‘I love you’. It was a day when everything was singing on my ride. No noises I didn’t want to hear. The right kit for the conditions. And, on the whole, there was a great combination of products in action. It added up to an appreciation of how much I liked what I was riding. At my turnaround point of a mid ..read more
