Being hearing-impaired presents its own set of challenges, especially in a world where spoken language is fundamental to communication. This challenge is further magnified in the Philippines, where opportunities for the deaf are scarce, particularly in education and employment. The limited number of secondary schools catering to their needs, coupled with financial constraints and inadequate facilities, makes it worst for their struggle to acquire skills and knowledge. A dedicated teacher from PSD provides a hands-on lecture inside their newly rehabilitated school building Shery ..read more

Following our decision to forego a Philippine Department of Education accreditation for the schooling of our two younger kids, we are looking for materials that we can use for our independent homeschooling.  We already completed the payment of the tuition fees of Ate Z and Bunso for their US accreditation, this means that beginning in July, we will report to our US homeschool provider for their grades. In the past month, I have been looking for a homeschool curriculum for language arts that we can use. My goals were for us to use an open-and-go curriculum and for the kids to star ..read more

Quezon Memorial Circle Museum

One of the places I visited in Quezon City when I was a child was the museum under that big tall tower in the middle of Quezon Circle. We've been at the Circle countless times but last October was the first time that I visited the museum in decades. Of course, I brought along the kids so we could all marvel at the displays inside and finally answer the question: What's inside? There's no entrance fee to visit the museum and the security guard was polite enough to point us to where we should go to begin the tour. Overall, the place is a memoir of the life of President Quezon. There are old ..read more

Another fun thing to visit at Quezon Memorial Circle is the Quezon Heritage House. This house is a replica of the weekend house of President Quezon at Gilmore Street. This museum is a few steps from the restaurant strip. There's no fee to visit the museum; they have a tour guide explaining the house's history and the items inside it. Though the place is a replica, according to the guide, most of the materials used here were from the original house. Also, all the items inside the house were used by President Quezon and his family. When we visited last October, we could only see the up ..read more

Last October 5, during Teacher's Day, the kids and I visited a few museums inside the Quezon City Circle. Kuya had no classes that day so we brought him for a field trip. To make the most time and plan ahead, we initially went first to QCX Museum. But when we arrived around 9AM, the lady guard said it was closed for renovations. She then told us to visit the other museums instead, with the Presidential Car Museum a few steps away from QCX. There are no entrance fees to get inside and explore the car museum. They do mention though that we may drop any donation for the museum sho ..read more

"I aspire to become an educator not merely to fulfill a personal dream but also to be a source of inspiration for the next generation." These inspiring words belong to 18-year-old Princess Eunice Motel, an SM scholar currently pursuing her education at the Philippine Normal University. She is one of two children of Hildajane, who works as an on-call factory re-packer, and Richard, a set man, both hailing from Caloocan City. Princess' dream of becoming a teacher has been a lifelong aspiration, firmly embedded in her heart and mind since her early years. This calling became even more ..read more
