Despite collapse at Illinois, Northwestern is pretty darn good Most of the bracket is somewhat status quo after the week with some minor changes. The No. 1 line looks fairly set in stone at this point, while the true battles are on the No. 2 & No. 3 lines. When you're looking at the biggest surprises of the 2023 college basketball season, Northwestern still holding out hope for a share of the Big Ten regular season championship in late February has to be near the top of the list. Northwestern is good, really good, folks. It starts defensively and grows from there. Yes, the Wildcats have fl ..read more

Final Projections: Selection Sunday SOME WORDS Richmond's A-10 Championship on Sunday broke one team's bubble; for us, it was Notre Dame's. The Irish were holding on all week, but with Virginia Tech, Richmond, and Texas A&M vaulting into the field, the Irish just couldn't find room.  We crunched the numbers between Notre Dame, Miami (Fla.), Wyoming, Texas A&M, and others... and the Irish just didn't quite measure up. It was close, but Mike Brey's group, despite finishing 15-5 and second place in the ACC, will be NIT bound.  This Notre Dame team is eerily s ..read more

Chaos at the Cutline! SOME WORDS First, let's look at the teams still alive that should be making bubblicious teams nervous: Dayton, Virginia Tech, SMU, Indiana, Texas A&M.  We've had the Flyers in the field for a while - albeit hanging on by a thread, but Dayton's NCSOS is becoming a weight. A win against Richmond in the A-10 semifinals is a must, and it still might not be enough. Virginia Tech is making a run, but they're not "in the field" because of wins against "First Four" Notre Dame and likely 8/9-game North Carolina. Those are good wins that help build ..read more

12 Down, 56 to Go! With Wednesday's games mostly being the early rounds of all major conference brackets, there was little change in the bracket. Xavier and Wake Forest suffered horrible, Quad 3, losses on Wednesday. Xavier lost in OT to Butler while Wake Forest dropped an overtime game to Boston College. While both losses could knock those teams out of the field, the fact remains that the Musketeers and Demon Deacons still have better overall resumes than those just outside the field. The negative for these two teams: Other squads have a chance to play themselves in th ..read more

10 Down, 58 to Go! LAST 4 BYES: Memphis, Michigan, Davidson, Wake Forest LAST 4 IN: Xavier, Wyoming, Miami (Fla.), Dayton FIRST 4 OUT: VCU, SMU, Florida, Indiana NEXT 4 OUT: BYU, Belmont, Virginia, Oregon There are no changes with our Top 16. It could be argued the No. 1 overall seed is sewn up (Gonzaga) and Arizona and Baylor both have No. 1 seeds regardless. That final No. 1 seed seems to be between Auburn, Kansas and Kentucky. It doesn't appear anyone else has a legitimate claim.  The Big Ten's trio of Wisconsin, Purdue, and Illinois will be an interesting group to watch in ter ..read more
