Some USC season-ticket holders received a notice today that upper level tickets for the LSU game on Sept. 1 in Las Vegas are available for $155-172 per ticket. If that is the price of upper level tickets, what will USC section seats go for on the lower level? The order deadline for the “lottery” for these tickets is April 12 ..read more

A Reason For SMU Fans To Be Worried

Andy Enfield has asked his coaching staff to join him at SMU. If I was an SMU fan, I wouldn’t take that as a positive. One of the problems since Jason Hart left USC was the lack of a strong assistant on the staff who could stand up to Enfield and also recruit. A problem for Enfield has been his lack of contacts and refusal to hire strong assistants. He only hired Hart because that Pat Haden told him to after Mike Hopkins said in his USC interview he would bring Hart and Tony Bland with him if he were hired. The word around USC on Wednesday was SMU offered Enfield a six-year deal worth around ..read more

USC Morning Buzz: A Lincoln Riley-Clay Helton Comparison

A USC football staffer compared Lincoln Riley to Clay Helton this week. Now that’s a comparison we wouldn’t have imagined. “The defensive staff is pretty much doing their own thing now,” the staffer said. “They don’t need (Riley). It’s like when Helton was around.” This contrasts with media reports that highlighted Riley watching the defense during practice. “He can watch but it’s really running itself on defense,” the staffer said. “They know what they want to do.” Again, this is a good thing. What defense needs a Mike Leach-disciple’s input ..read more

USC Notes: It’s Officially Harder Than Ever To Get Admitted

It’s official: USC’s acceptance rate for the 2023-2024 was 9.2 percent. USC accepted 7,550 potential students out of more than 82,000 applicants. Acceptance letters were sent out Friday. It’s a record low for USC. Remember, in 1974 the freshmen acceptance rate for high school seniors at USC was 93 percent. Former USC basketball player Tre White has entered the transfer portal. He spent this season at Louisville. So it will be three schools in three years. Isn’t college sports great? USC baseball got back on track with a 10-1 victory over Fresno State. Don’t ask where the game was. USC has n ..read more

Morning Buzz: USC Needs To Go Portaling Again

So this is currently USC’s offensive line to start against LSU: Left tackle: Elijah Paige Left guard: Mason Murphy Center: Jonah Monheim Right guard: Emmanuel Pregnon Right tackle: Tobias Raymond Outside of Monheim, the interior is bang average. The tackles have less than 100 snaps of college experience. Again, the first opponent is L-S-U. It’s still only spring, of course. So when offensive line coach Josh Henson says USC will look “pretty heavily” at the transfer portal, believe him ..read more

Who Would Replace Andy Enfield?

If Andy Enfield takes the SMU job, who replaces him? I’m going to break it down into categories: People who want the job and people who will be considered. WHO GETS CONSIDERED? Brian Dutcher, San Diego State (He would more than double his salary. Just depends on if he wants to make a move at age 64). Tad Boyle, Colorado (One of the best coaches in the West). Jamie Dixon, TCU (Almost got job before; might be time for a move after taking TCU to NCAA Tournament for third straight year, which is first for program). Kevin Keatts, North Carolina State (He’s hot with the Wolfpack in Sweet 16). Eric M ..read more

USC Notes: Andy Enfield Ready To Take SMU Offer

Imagine the money SMU must be throwing at Andy Enfield right now. Enfield makes more than $4.5 million at USC. He’s got several more years on his contract. Sources at USC said today they expect Enfield to take the job if the offer is right (meaning he gets the money he wants). We can only hope. USC offensive line coach Josh Henson said Tobias Raymond would start at tackle right for the Trojans. Raymond is a redshirt freshman who played in two games last season. So Raymond and fellow freshman Elijah Page would start at tackle. With Emmanuel Pregnon, Jonah Monheim and Mason Murphy the interior ..read more

A lot of former high-profile USC players are being asked to donate money to the new football building that is scheduled to be built. It makes sense to ask former Heisman Trophy winners and TV personalities for money. But who is going make a monster donation? Wayne Hughes, who donated more than $400 million to USC in his lifetime, was the big donor to the McKay Center. Phil Knight also contributed, mainly because of his close relationship with John McKay. But for the Lincoln Riley building who will be the signature donor? I’ll tell you one challenge: Riley’s personality isn’t expected to be a p ..read more
