Australian women’s cricket star Alyssa Healy has undergone surgery on her hand after an incident at home described by a teammate as a “vicious dog attack”.
Healy was a late withdrawal from Sydney Sixers’ WBBL match against Sydney Thunder on Sunday night, with a team statement citing a “domestic accident at home”.
After the Sixers confirmed the 33-year-old went in for surgery on Sunday, her Thunder rival and Australian teammate Phoebe Litchfield later said Healy had been injured in a dog attack.

Australian swim star Kaylee McKeown has broken a second world record in the space of two days at the World Cup meet in Budapest.
The 22-year-old Queenslander bettered her own 100m backstroke record on Saturday (Sunday AEDT) with a time of 57.33 seconds, shaving 0.12 off the mark that she in Adelaide before the Tokyo Olympic Games.
It follows her record-breaking swim on Friday evening when she clocked 26.86 for 50m backstroke, eclipsing the previous record of 26.98 set by China’s Liu Xiang in 2018.

Fellow Manchester United and England star David Beckham has praised “national hero” Sir Bobby Charlton as tributes poured in following the 1966 World Cup winner’s death at the age of 86.
Beckham came through the ranks at Manchester United having attended Bobby Charlton’s Soccer School and was given the middle name Robert as his father was such a fan of the 1968 European Cup winner.

Melbourne player Joel Smith has been provisionally suspended after testing positive to cocaine during the AFL home-and-away season.
Smith was caught with the illicit drug in his system through an in-competition doping test.
The test was conducted by Sport Integrity Australia officials following the Demons’ win over Hawthorn in round 23.
The results of the test were not known until after the season had finished.

A-League players have been warned against surrounding and intimidating referees as Football Australia bids to address the officiating “crisis” facing the game at the grassroots level.
