Steve Hackett chats about new album ‘The Circus and The Nightwhale’, re-visiting Genesis’ ‘Foxtrot’ live… and The Beatles

Steve Hackett seems to be in a satisfying place creatively— even after five decades— as one of prog rock’s premier guitarists. Simply put, he remains just as influential as Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour. But that’s another topic for another day. Hackett released his 30th(!) solo album in February called The Circus and The Nightwhale, which arrived only after two years since his last release, 2021’s Surrender of Silence. By the way, that isn’t trivial. In 2024, releasing new music after two years is quick. In short order, that doesn’t happen very often. Hackett is also touring in support of the ne ..read more

Uli Jon Roth talks ‘Interstellar Sky Guitar’ tour that kicks off in Mesa
Beneath a Desert Sky

For the first time in five years, former Scorpions guitarist Uli Jon Roth will embark on a 32-date tour of the U.S. and Canada that commences this Tues. April 2 at The Venue at the Canyon House in Mesa. Damn, that’s a mouthful for the name of a concert venue! But I digress. The ideal thing about this show is that it will be An Evening With…”, which as many of you know means… no opening act. It also means that fans wil be treated to a nearly 3-hour show, with a 15–20-minute intermission. That alone is worth the price of admission, especially at a time when shows by veteran artists (with a sizab ..read more

Beneath a Desert Sky
by Megan Juarez-Fontana

Disturbed had originally come to Phoenix in the summer of 2023 but unfortunately due to machine malfunctions caused by the heat, the band had to cancel. Everyone left Talking Stick Amphitheater disappointed. The day finally arrive, Disturbed was back at Talking Stick Amphitheater. The show was set to be a good one and one that was going to be packed; the show was sold out! The line wrapped down the street and around the corner.  People waited up to an hour in the line to find parking and some people made it in just in time to catch Disturbed’s set. Disturbed was formed in 1994 in Chi ..read more

Photo © Fred Kuhlman 2023, All Rights Reserved On Wednesday night Wind Rose comes to the Nile Theater with their North American Warfront tour.  If you have haven’t seen Wind Rose, they are an Italian Power Metal band that dress up as dwarf warriors similar to those from Middle Earth.  I saw them last year when they toured with Rhapsody Of Fire.  I remember 2 things from that night, 1st, Wind Rose had a huge following that some left once the band’s set was done.  The 2nd was that crossing a mosh pit even when only a couple of people are in it is still dangerous. I really enj ..read more

Gloryhammer is a British power metal band that is known for their stage show. Band members appears on stage in armour and costumes to represent their respective characters. This includes lead singer Angus McFife and bassist The Hootsman.  I love their Legends from Beyond the Galactic Terrorvortex album with songs, “The Siege of Dunkeld (In Hoots We Trust)”, “The Land of Unicorns” and “Hootsforce”.  Their new album Return to the Kingdom of Fife is another blockbuster.  You can check out all of their albums on your favorite streaming service.  Opening the show will be Twiligh ..read more
