In June of this year, a stray came to our Shelter. This young dog was sweet but very nervous. She did not like being handled and was very submissive around other dogs. This initially shy girl would nervously come to the front of the cage but was easily overwhelmed.  We knew it would take a patient person to help her gain confidence and trust. After seeing our vet staff, vaccinations, and a spay surgery, she was made available for adoption. 2 days later, her whole life changed. We knew her as Rita; her name is now Skye.         “6 months ago, I went to the Nevada Humane ..read more

In August of this year, a very sweet pup came to our shelter as a stray. It was suspected that he was hit by a car, and he seemed to be in a great deal of pain due to a femur fracture with severe swelling. Our veterinary team decided to amputate his leg. He recovered wonderfully and was not long after made available for adoption. This sweet pup is Hopscotch. He was not only a very handsome tripod, but he had a beautiful personality. He patiently waited 43 days at our shelter for his fur-ever home. In October, Hopscotch got a visit, and it was successful because Hopscotch is now in his fur-ever ..read more

In March of 2023, Jagger came in as a stray. His health was an initial concern as he struggled to have regular bowel movements. It was noticed that he had a Feces impaction, so the very next day, the clinic removed the impact and began him on a plan with medications and a special diet. CLINIC HELP HERE Thanks to the amazing veterinary team at AEC for performing whatever medical needs here Jagger struggled more than most in the shelter due to his recovery and dog reactivity. We knew the healing process would be easier in a home environment and began looking for a foster. We never gave up on hi ..read more

In early April, we had 4 kitties come into our shelter. They were still young and tiny, so they were put into foster care to grow big and strong. These kitties were ringworm +. Ringworm is a fungal infection that requires specialized care. As most kitties with ringworm, it took them a little while to get adopted. Eventually, they all got their happy endings in their fur-ever homes. Here is an update on one of those kitties, Prismo.     “I adopted Prismo from the Nevada Humane Society in Reno on July 3rd, 2023. We walked in to the kitten section of the building, and many kittens were ..read more

Introducing a pup who never let his challenges dampen his mood. Alfy was surrendered to us in August to find a home that could better address his medical needs. Alfy, like all animals in our care, got checked out by our clinical team. They started him on a hypoallergenic diet, medication, and medicated baths. While we waited for Alfy’s skin to improve, we all got to know his personality. He was an energetic boy who loved people, other dogs, and feline friends. He radiated joy and confidence. His spirits were never discouraged, even with the state of his skin and living in the shelter. After ab ..read more
