Why Did the Geese Cross the Freeway?

Alison Diaz has been an Animal Control Officer for just over a month, and one of the first calls she responded to was to assist fellow officer Luis Simental in assisting Highway Patrol. CHP needed help getting a family of geese off the 134 freeway. Prior to becoming an ACO, Diaz was a technician in our Wildlife Department. It was second nature for her to immediately know what to do to help the geese, so she jumped into action. Alison realized the mother goose and her six goslings were near a pond where the geese were most likely headed. The youngsters were just a few days old and unable to fly ..read more

Sadie (A511760) has been showing off her impeccable manners in a foster home while waiting for adoption from Pasadena Humane. Many large dogs like Sadie are not allowed in rental properties due to size or breed. From 2022 to 2023, the number of owner-surrendered dogs at Pasadena Humane increased by more than 30%. One of the leading reasons was housing instability. Housing issues were the cause of nearly a quarter of owner-surrendered dogs at our shelter. The problem is complex, but on the most basic level, there is a severe lack of affordable pet-friendly housing. Obviously, we live in an ex ..read more

We adopted Ernie in November after our beloved 19.5-year-old cat, Elliott, passed away. We initially made our appointment to meet another kitten, whom we later learned had been adopted the day before. Luckily, we kept our appointment and met this sweet little guy. He was found walking alone on the 110 freeway earlier that week! He wasn’t particularly affectionate at the shelter, but our adoption guide assured us he was a good match. She was right! He turned into a playful purr machine as soon as we got home. He is such a good little cat. Withi ..read more

Join us at the Wiggle Waggle Walk and Run on Sunday, April 21, at Brookside Park in Pasadena. Funds raised support Pasadena Humane’s lifesaving programs and services for the animals. Register online at wigglewagglewalk.org Spring is a wonderful time to get out in our community to enjoy the weather and the beauty of the San Gabriel Valley. I find it’s even more enjoyable if you can bring your dog along. Unfortunately, my poor little dog, Sueshi, has torn ligaments in both of her knees. She’s scheduled for surgery in early May, so she is missing out on all the spring fun this year. Sueshi wasn ..read more

Last week, we were at Pasadena Humane and found a beautiful little girl named Birdie. We took her with us on a trial basis but decided she was a perfect fit for us. Her name is now Pittunia because she’s a pittie and just like a pretty little flower! We finalized Pittunia’s adoption today. She has been the sweetest girl imaginable and learns new things every day. She snores but we like that because we know she is sleeping peacefully. Our two beloved pups, Rex and Sandy, passed away within the last 6 months, and a friend told us they would pick out a new pup for us when we were ready. I guess ..read more

I adopted Frankie in late spring 2017 when he was ~8. He was known at Pasadena Humane as “Fat Frank.” He lived a wonderful seven years with me. He liked trying to steal food, giving back massages, and cuddling up with his cat friends. Frankie would say hello to everyone who walked in the door and demand you pet him by rolling over. He liked exploring the outdoors (supervised) and experienced his first snow in 2021. Frankie passed away on April 11, 2024, at 14. He was loved by everyone he met, and he equally loved them back. A senior couple reached out to Pasadena Humane for help because they were having trouble making ends meet. They found themselves supporting their grandchildren as well as their four senior cats while living on a fixed income. Feeding that many mouths was tough on the couple, and they worried that they would have to give up their beloved cats. Thankfully, they were able to take advantage of Pasadena Humane’s Helping Paws program, which provides crucial resources for people in need of assistance with their pets. We provided the couple with food and assistance with veterinary care for their cats ..read more
