There was recognition for four Manchester restaurants in Monday night’s prestigious National Restaurant Awards. While the top 100 list was typically dominated by London eateries, Manchester’s only Michelin Star spot, Mana, was ranked at number 14. Simon Martin’s acclaimed fine-dining restaurant was closely followed by Higher Ground, which also made the top 20 in 16th, a significant jump from its 51st spot last year. One of Manchester’s oldest pubs is set to reopen in Stockport after being closed for over a decade. The White Lion, located in the town’s now-flourishing Underbanks, dates back to the 15th century but has lay abandoned for years. Stockport Council acquired the Grade II listed building as part of the £7m investment into the regeneration of the Market Place and Underbanks which forms part of the wider £1bn investment in the town centre.
