Lando Norris has revealed when McLaren can take another step further and contend for the F1 World Championship. The Miami GP was a landmark weekend for McLaren, who announced themselves as contenders in F1. After spending much of last year fighting for regular podiums, the British team have taken the next step and taken victory. A significant upgrade package to the MCL38 proved effective immediately, even with limited free practice time to analyse and optimise the changes. Regardless, Lando Norris had enough to claim a maiden race victory. Moving forward, he believes World Championships are wi ..read more

Helmut Marko responds to “nonsense” Ricciardo rumours
LWOS | Motorsports

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko has dismissed some of the rumours surrounding Liam Lawson and Daniel Ricciardo. As ever, the Racing Bulls (also known as VCARB or RB) are at the centre of F1 news. Speculation surrounding the Faenza-based team’s driver combination is common. Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda are under pressure to deliver, both to make their case for a Red Bull promotion and – perhaps more pressingly – to avoid being replaced by Liam Lawson. In recent weeks, speculation surrounding Lawson’s future has intensified. A few weeks ago, LWOS reported that Lawson is not guaranteed a seat ..read more

F1 News: Haas will continue upgrade push in Imola

Haas can be credited with a greatly improved rate of development in early 2024 – and they plan to continue progressing. Haas were at the centre of F1 news headlines last weekend in Miami, though not for the points Nico Hulkenberg secured. Amidst Kevin Magnussen’s incidents, there were plenty of positives for the American outfit’s Grand Prix on home soil. The VF-24 performed above expectations, culminating in two crucial points in the Sprint Race. After introducing early upgrades, Ayao Komatsu’s team is working to produce more improvements. As mentioned above, most of the attention last weekend ..read more

Charles Leclerc will have a new race engineer starting from the upcoming Imola GP, ending his time with Xavier Marcos. Ferrari has announced a series of organisational changes to be implemented in the coming days. Perhaps the most significant development concerns Charles Leclerc, who will no longer have Xavier Marcos as his race engineer. The Spaniard will take a new role within Ferrari, operating in other aspects of the company. In his place will be, Bryan Bozzi, a performance engineer with almost a decade of experience in the team. In many ways, Xavi Marcos and the discourse surrounding him ..read more

Red Bull: Upgrades incoming to counter F1 rivals

Red Bull will bring upgrades to the RB20, as they work to combat the emerging threat from McLaren and Ferrari. Three teams have taken victories in the first six rounds of 2024. This is something few would predicted a few months ago, when the RB20 began to flex its muscles in testing. Of course, Red Bull still leads the Championship and – for now – there is not enough evidence to dispute they have the best car. Nevertheless, the rapid development shown by McLaren and anticipated upgrades from Ferrari have changed the playing field. The reigning Champions must respond, and they intend to do so ..read more

McLaren: Piastri compromised by limited upgrades in Miami

Oscar Piastri left the Miami GP empty-handed, although McLaren factors beyond his control compromised his chances. It was Lando Norris who crossed the chequered flag in Miami to claim victory in the MCL38. Teammate Oscar Piastri failed to score points on Sunday, with a series of unfortunate events ultimately costing the Australian. Aside from his skirmishes with Carlos Sainz, the 23-year-old was fundamentally held back by the MCL38 available to him in Florida. Even before the Miami weekend kicked off, Piastri was aware of the obstacles he would face. McLaren was unable to prepare all their upg ..read more

Why Magnussen is not guaranteed a Haas contract extension

Kevin Magnussen dominated F1 news with his defensive driving in Miami, although not for the reasons he – or Haas – wanted. Only a few weeks ago, Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu defended Magnussen for his incident with Tsunoda in China. Komatsu argued that his driver was excessively punished for what should have been chalked off as a racing incident. No such defence came last weekend, though, with Kevin Magnussen receiving an unprecedented number of penalties in just two days. At face value, this is a relatively uncontroversial observation. Although team principals typically stand up for their ..read more

Wolff: Mercedes need “many weeks” to produce next upgrades

Mercedes have no short-term fixes to their F1 struggles in 2024, admits team principal Toto Wolff. Traditionally, customer teams fail to outperform their suppliers. Teams like Mercedes or Ferrari, with tremendous resources, enjoy an inherent advantage over the teams dependent on their power units. For this reason, it has often been suggested that McLaren – for example – was limited by its reliance on Brixworth for its power units. Of course, this consensus has been shattered, with the Woking-based team claiming victory last weekend. Mercedes loses ground to rivals To be clear, McLaren’s ascent ..read more

The Miami GP surpassed all expectations, providing a shock race winner plenty of F1 news headlines – thus hitting record viewership figures in the US. Over the last few years, F1 has significantly stepped up its presence in America. There are now three races on the calendar, with Miami and Las Vegas representing the latest additions. Generally speaking, these circuits have received criticism for their layouts. However, the inaugural race in Vegas – and the most recent Grand Prix in Miami – have produced plenty of highlights. Indeed, last weekend was perhaps the most exciting F1 race of 2024 so ..read more
