As a beginner or “noob” (newbie) in Regiments, it’s always a good idea to choose options that make life (and the game) a bit easier. Later on, when you are a more seasoned veteran, you can increase the difficulty level and use the default setting for income, time limits, and how fast (or slow) new task forces become available. All game elements in this and other screenshots are (C) 2022 Bird’s Eye Games and MicroProse Regiments – More Lessons Learned in the Battles for Grasleben As you can see, I had eight units and 963 Deployment Points at the start of this Skirmish. The game has a few quirks, such as saying Pickett’s Charge took place on July 1, 1863. (C) 2018 Game-Labs “The Civil War defined us as what we are and it opened us to being what we became, good and bad things… It was the crossroads of our being, and it was a hell of a crossroads.” ― Shelby Foote, The Civil War: A Narrative If you are a regular reader of A Certain Point of View, Too, no doubt you have noticed that one of my leisure time activities is playing strategy or war games on my computer. I don’t “game” often; I am a storyteller first, and I tend to spend more time on Microsoft Word than ..read more

(C) 2017 Game-Labs Even though I spend most of my days here in New Hometown, Florida writing (whether it’s on my two blogs or other projects), sometimes I like to kick back and relax with a good computer game…or two…or three. And even though I do like space-fantasy games such as Star Wars: Rebellion or Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 3-D, my main gaming focus is on war games and military-themed simulations. I tend to favor games that are set during World War II or later; when I started playing simulations or map-based war games, I started out with such titles as NATO Commander, Crusade in Europe, Si ..read more

Photo by Sharefaith on Pexels.com Hello, Dear Reader. It’s early afternoon here in New Hometown, Florida on Monday, May 31, 2021. In the United States and its territories, it is Memorial Day, a federal holiday originally set aside to honor the men and women who died while serving in the military in our country’s wars but is now mostly  the unofficial “start of summer.[1] It is a hot and gray-skied day; the current temperature is 86˚F (30˚C) under mostly cloudy skies. With humidity at 40% and the wind blowing from the east at 11 MPH (18 KM/H), the heat index is 91˚F (33˚C). Today we can ex ..read more

TITLE: Armored Brigade GENRE: Simulation, Strategy DEVELOPER: Veitikka Studios PUBLISHER: Slitherine Ltd./Matrix Games FRANCHISE: Armored Brigade RELEASE DATE: Nov 15, 2018 Rating: 3.5 out of 5. As someone who grew up in the shadow of the Cold War (1946-1991) and can still remember that the present Russian Federation was one of 16 “republics” in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), I have long been fascinated by this strange “war in peacetime” that was part of the geopolitical scene for my childhood and a good chunk of my adult life. Because I was a “Cold War kid,” I tried to put ..read more

MicroProse’s F-15 Strike Eagle III was the third and final installment of a series of popular combat flight simulators first introduced in 1984. (C) 1992 MicroProse Software I have loved computer games ever since my father’s brother Sixto gave me my first personal computer – an Apple IIe with a color monitor and an Imagewriter printer – in 1987. At the time, I was still studying journalism at what was then called Miami-Dade Community College, and I badly needed a home computer for writing and working on class assignments, so it was mostly a “for school” thing. Nevertheless, I also wanted a few ..read more

Main menu screen from Strategic Command WWII: World at War © 2018 Fury Software/Matrix Games/Slitherine Ltd.  Rating: 4.5 out of 5. The Challenge of Command As we enter the sixth month of the COVID-19 global pandemic and the third month of living with social distancing and an economic lockdown, I have found ways to keep myself occupied and not go “stir crazy.” As a writer and blogger, I usually spend my waking hours at my desk, writing posts for my two blogs or – less frequently – trying to come up with ideas for future screenplays or even that novel I aspire to write (but have avoided ..read more
