Cozy Quilt

I finishd my cozy quilt last month! This was such an enjoyable project and the finished quilt definitely lives up to the cozy promise. This was a sew-along hosted by Alison Glass and her team. I jumped onboard when they first announced it last fall, and fortunately they followed a long, relaxed schedule to give everyone plenty of time to make their quilt. I bought the forest green knit from Alison’s shop, and pulled a selection of 14 fat quarters from my stash in shades of pink, aqua, and gold. These fabrics are truly a mixed bag — some are from recent collections, and some have been hang ..read more

Waves Illusion Mini Quilt

Waves Illusion is my make for this year’s Pantone Quilt Challenge! As one of the challenge hosts, I’m not eligible for prizes, but I couldn’t resist making something to match this year’s Peach Fuzz theme. This mini quilt is based on recent paintings by @morgan_echols, which are in turn based on optical illusions by psychology professor Akiyoshi Kitaoka. I shared a photo of this last week when it was nearly finished, and I was able to add a facing and label over the weekend to truly call it done. The wave motion illusion shows up strongly on the screen and in Morgan’s two-dimensional pain ..read more

It’s been 3 months but let’s start at the end — or at least the most recent. The Eclipse! Back in October, we booked a VRBO on Lake Travis, just west of Austin in the zone of totality. It was ridiculously expensive, but we missed the total eclipse in 2017 and I was NOT going to miss this one. We decided to make a weekend out of it — we shared our rental with another family of 4 that we’ve gotten close to over the last few years, and my longtime friend Becca and her husband. Our rental was also just a quarter mile down the road from another one where my friends Jen and Gavin and their kids and ..read more
