Today we have two different styles of basket patterns. The round basket is a stack of rings and the slat basket has eleven slats between two end pieces.
I changed up the style of the rings in the round basket. It makes an unusual weave pattern but I like it.

Choosing a Scroll Saw Blade for a Project
Many of my emails from readers ask about choosing a scroll saw blade for a particular wood.
I am probably the wrong person to ask because I rarely choose a blade for the wood. I choose the blade based on the pattern. If I am cutting 3/4" thick hardwood but the pattern has very small interior c ..read more

The Rose and Butterflies pattern is 12.5" tall and 9.5" wide. The pattern calls for 1/4" thick wood. This pattern will most likely be cut from plywood because of the width. I am showing the backer board painted red.
The skydive pattern can be cut from any thickness of wood you have available. The quote is from a comedian I first saw many years ago, Steven Wright. He first appeared on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson in 1982. He was a master of one-liners.

The little dog pattern came about because I was thinking about our dog, Holly. She can get very picky and stubborn regarding food and treats. If you try to change up from her regular routine of treats she gives you the look.
One funny thing is she won't eat the last bi ..read more

As of September 2023, there were around 192,400 school bus drivers working in Kâ12 schools in the United States, which is 15.1% lower than in September 2019. This number is not enough to cover all the routes needed to safely transport students to school, and the driver turnover rate is between 10â20%.
I live right across the river from Louisville KY. They had a rough start to the year with the bus schedules. Their drivers say that student behavior is a problem, They currently have 553 driv ..read more

This Race Car pattern is 9" long and cut from seven - 1/4" thick layers. You cannot quite get all seven layers cut from one 12" X 12" X 1/4" thick plywood but two sheets will get it all. The wheels call for 1/2" thick wood but you can use 1/4 also if that is what you have available. Use 1/4" wooden dowels for the axles. There are parts that can be stack cut. Do note that the number 6 is reversed so it comes out correct facing.
The wheels for this pattern are small so ensure the child is of an appropriate age. If you choo ..read more

I need to admit that the tongue-in-cheek saying on the Mother's Day pattern was not my idea. I saw the words used on a laser pattern and thought they were pretty funny so I used them to design a pattern. The plaque is 7.5" in diameter and has two 1/4" thick layers of wood.
The big rig is 9.5" wide and cut from two layers.

The Victorian basket is 7.5" in diameter and can be made as deep as you like by adding more basket rings. The pattern calls for the rings to be 1/4" thick but use thicker wood for a deeper basket.
The hot air balloon scene has four layers. It will be a fairly easy pattern to cut. A 24" X 24" pice if 1/4" thick plywood is more than you need to cut the pattern so it won't be too expensive to cut.
