Geothermal heat pumps owe their unparalleled efficiency to the fact that the earth maintains a more or less stable temperature profile regardless of the season or weather happening up at the surface. As you would imagine, the deeper the depth, the less impacted the earth’s temperature is by the weather conditions above. In a closed loop geothermal system, water flows through a ground loop circuit, traveling through the stable underground environment, absorbing heat in the winter, and dispersing heat in the summer as it goes. As the ground loop adds or subtracts more and more heat to or from th ..read more

What is a ground loop?
A ground loop is a series of pipes buried underground at a depth where temperatures stay consistent year-round. It serves as the critical link allowing geothermal heat pumps to use the earth as a heat source or heat sink, depending on if heating or cooling is required.
How does a ground loop work?
Just a few feet below the ground’s surface, the earth maintains a steady 50-55 degrees no matter what the temperature of the outside air. This difference in temperature allows the earth to act as a heat source in winter and a heat sink in summer. A geothermal heat pump (located ..read more

Benjamin Franklin famously claimed that nothing in this world is certain except for death and taxes. That may have been true in his day, but as any homeowner can attest today: we can now add utility bills to that shortlist of certainties. According to US News and World Report, the average homeowner should reserve up to 10% of their budget to spend on electricity, water, heating, and cooling. What many people don’t know when they’re buying their first home is just how much of that utility budget will be going towards keeping you and your family warm through the winter.

Imagine having to drink tepid milk with your morning cereal bowl everyday, or having to go without milk in your icebox for a few days thanks to a missed delivery. In the past, preserving food by keeping it cool was an everyday concern for households that hoped to avoid food poisoning and food waste. Thankfully, most of us haven’t had to worry about that ever since the 1920s.
Now imagine having to go without heating fuel for a few days thanks to a missed delivery. Sound familiar? In the infamously cold winters of the American northeast, a convenient, reliable, and affordable source of hea ..read more

Have you heard of home geothermal heating and cooling? It’s an HVAC system that can save homeowners serious money on utility bills.
Unfortunately, many people have never heard of home geothermal, or they don’t understand it. A lot of people think it has something to do with capturing heat from volcanoes or geysers.
That would be pretty tricky to pull off for most homeowners, and it would seriously limit the number of people who could take advantage of geothermal energy.
Thankfully, you don’t have to live anywhere near an active volcano to have an effective, money-saving home geothermal system ..read more

As we start to prepare for the holiday season in a few weeks, homeowners can sense the start of winter returning in full force.
After a relatively moderate winter in 2022, The Farmers’ Almanac believes that “winter weather is making a comeback” in 2023, predicting cold, snowy conditions throughout the Northeast.
While kids may be dreaming of a white Christmas, many homeowners are thinking about the cash they will have to shell out to heat their homes, an increasingly unpredictable and onerous expense in the Northeast.
