In this weekly series, Martin describes a question that was raised by a Fonto developer, how it was resolved and why Fonto behaved like that in the first place. After a hiatus of writing, this is my last post. I decided to move on from Fonto, and I’d like to write down my final tips on how to configure Fonto best!
Reload / retry performance for developers: just run it local!
The number one frustration I have seen with a number of partners is the full integration of Fonto in their CMS. Every code change on the Fonto side requires the editor to be rebuilt (fdt editor build), deployed into the CM ..read more

As the proud partner of the promising decathlete Sven Roosen, we at Fonto are excited to share a glimpse into his preparations for the Olympic season. Currently stationed in Stellenbosch, South Africa, Sven is rigorously training for the upcoming competition in Götzis, now just one and a half months away. “Training in Africa is going well,” Sven shares. “I’m fine-tuning the details. I’ve participated in a few indoor events, making significant progress in sprints and shot put. The technical events are starting to click, and I’m growing stronger.”

A lot of cool new features, improvements, or even completely new products can be found in this release! This release sees updates to all six, that’s right SIX, of our products. That also means there is more to read than usual so let us keep it short in this section. One final remark, make sure not to miss out on our newly announced research panel.
Fonto Editor
Fonto Editor can now do automatic replacement of quote characters, sometimes called “smart quotes”. Use the new quoteStyle property to determine which characters to insert in your documents when an author types ‘ or “.

We manage an example editor hosted on GitHub, which is actively contributed to by a diverse group of developers. Given the inherent diversity in their choice of operating systems and IDEs, achieving uniformity in coding styles becomes challenging. To address this issue, we use ESLint, a tool designed to assist us in adhering to the project-specific coding standards, ensuring consistency across your codebase.
The prerequisites for this blog post assume that you have already upgraded your project to TypeScript. We previously discussed the process of transitioning to TypeScript in one of our earl ..read more

In the fast-paced world of pharmaceuticals, the clarity and precision of documentation are not just a matter of compliance, but a cornerstone of innovation and patient safety. Structured content plays a critical role in meeting the stringent regulatory demands and the quest for efficiency. The shift towards structured content authoring is revolutionizing the way we think about, produce, and utilize our documents.

In this weekly series Martin describes a question that was raised by a Fonto developer, how it was resolved and why Fonto behaved like that in the first place. This week something different. We recently launched the Profiles feature. In this post I’ll describe how we implemented this in our Documentation editor!
Profiles API
The Profiles API is used in many different places. Anywhere where an author is displayed by name, we can now show some additional information and an avatar! Some examples are the balloons in Fonto Review, , Track textual changes, and Fonto Document History.

In today’s digital age, the way we manage and utilize information has evolved dramatically. Conventionally, document content is unstructured, with text, figures, and tables that authors can freely arrange in the way they want to. By structuring content, we can shift from a document-based to a content and data-based approach. But what exactly is structured content, and why is it becoming increasingly important in various industries?
What is structured content?
Structured content refers to information organized in a consistent and predictable manner, often enriched with metadata. While XML is a ..read more

In this weekly series, Martin describes a question that was raised by a Fonto developer, how it was resolved and why Fonto behaved like that in the first place. This week, a developer reached out with a screenshot of a generic error: something about an Uncaught (in promise): undefined. In this blog post, we’re going to go over the debugOperation option and how to use it.
Let’s start with finding which operation actually caused it. We got a screenshot of a stack trace and the editor, so that was easy.
The breaking code seemed to be in some custom metadata panel where the OperationsManager‘s exe ..read more

This year’s summertime release introduces an often-asked feature in the form of the new placeholder family and while this release can’t offer you anything in the form of a refreshment to deal with the summer heat it does offer a refresh of our context menus.
This release also features something “hot” for all the developers out there in the form of improved error reporting. Our own Martin Middel has written a blog post detailing what we’ve improved.
