SPE’s 1st Anniversary – A Moment of Musing

So, here we are. Exactly one year ago today, Save Planet Earth (SPE) was formed in a time and midst of adversities, pushing through a year of trials and tribulations. Against all odds, these past 365 days had been a journey of growth and discoveries for a movement that started as a candid desire to save our planet. Unlike our previous blog posts, I’d like this one to be less of an announcement or a checklist of our past, present, and future achievements, and more of a step back to interact with you, the reader. Of course, I will point out some of our successes within this piece as well, othe ..read more

Celebrating Earth Day (2022) – A Message from SPE

by SavePlanetEarth

Although we have a specific day to celebrate this occasion, it’s fair to agree that this celebration shouldn’t be relegated to just one day. As things stand now, we can’t expect our current ecological crises to be resolved within a day, even if every single person on the planet puts a 100% effort into the environmental activities laid out for the occasion. This is why that same level of effort should be carried over in the days after, with the same conviction on why we celebrate Earth Day in the first place. This is just a personal opinion, and we simply wanted to put this out there. Hopefully ..read more

Plant Trees, Not Bombs

As the saying goes: “Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” It can sometimes be baffling to realize why humans – with the acquired gift of common sense – would unleash the most extreme form of primal territoriality. It’s their version of survival – ensuring one’s society, lineage or creed can prosper without a looming fear of being snuffed out. Territorial disputes often end with a victor and a vanquished – one that claims the territory to do as they please while the defeated party is either banished or subjected to the former’s whims. You can see that from animals in n ..read more

Through Turbulent Times – Sri Lanka & Pakistan

Most, if not all, nations are currently going through a rough moment – economically, politically, environmentally, socially, or even all at once. The coronavirus pandemic, which should have been buried in the past by now, is still a crisis that grips the well-being of every nation and its citizens today. It makes its presence dead-set at a time when humanity is urged to band together and combat the ever-growing effects of climate change. Oftentimes, we see the opposite instead; division instead of unity in the face of consequential disasters, and even fermenting even more crises stemming from ..read more

To Be a Certified Tree-Hugger: An Opinion

Have you ever been called a colossal “tree-hugger” when you were young, impressionable, and fascinated with nature? No? Just me then? Alright… good to know, I guess. Well, in any case, some of you may find it relatable if one is more immersed in nature than others. Maybe even to the point of bringing up a handful of trivia that may drive one’s family members, friends, or co-workers bonkers. Many kids in their prime can map out a goal based on what they experience around them. Among them include the one whimsical goal of being an “animal/tree doctor” (their words, not mine) or something along t ..read more

A Tidbit about Coral Bleaching
Save Planet Earth Blog

For the fourth time in six years, the corals of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef are going through another mass bleaching event – a major casualty in the ocean world brought on by the ever-growing climate change crisis. Coral reefs serve as the fundamental infrastructure for life under the sea. While it mostly serves the ecosystem as a habitat for other marine lives, corals themselves are also living, stationary invertebrates, consisting of small “polyps” that enable them to feed on tiny planktons for sustenance. Because they play a vital role in maintaining the underwater ecosystem, removing th ..read more

Carrying the Weight in Lowering Emissions

Earlier in November 2021, a few days after world leaders gathered in Glasgow for the COP26 summit, the United States and China made a surprise announcement by resolving on working together to cut emissions. An immediate reaction would undoubtedly be a relief, since both countries are the world’s largest carbon emitters, with China and the US accounting for about 27% and 11% (respectively) of global emissions, according to a report published in May by research and consulting firm Rhodium Group. (It is, however, worth noting in other publications that the US has a higher per capita carbon e ..read more

A Tidbit about Coastal Erosions

If you built a sandcastle too close to the shore, there likely won’t be one as soon as a wave hits it. Even if by some miracle it had survived, it’s pretty much vulnerable for another wave, then another, until your sandcastle is nothing more than a moist lump of sand. You could say that the sandcastle’s structure eventually degraded – or eroded, losing to the merciless ocean tide, making you wish that you had attempted making your building a little bit farther away. Erosion, in a general sense, isn’t as sudden or quick to destroy a structure. Its effects are best witnessed over a lengthy cours ..read more

Climate Change is the Main Plot, Not a Side Quest

When global activity slowed to a crawl during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic that has been ongoing since 2020, it altered the state of human civilization in unpredictable and long-lasting ways. The economic routine that everyone had adapted to throughout their lifetime had been altered, and getting back to it today still remains a tough challenge to many. It’s not like we can hit pause on the happenings on the rest of the world until we can get back on our feet. Either we keep up or we can’t. But that was mostly humanity’s problem. For the planet during that time, it was practically a vac ..read more
