Founded in 2009, the Madre de Dios REDD (Reduced Emissions from Deforestation in Forest Degradation) Project is based in Tahuamanu, Peru, less than 18 miles from the new Interoceanic Highway that connects Brazil to the Pacific Ocean and Peruvian ports. The project is within the region that belongs to the Vilcabamba-Amboró Ecological Corridor, a national rainforest and one of the world’s greatest biodiversity hotspots.
