Have you ever been in a public location where someone notices your “concealed” handgun and stares at it for an uncomfortably long period of time?
Have you thought about how you might handle such a situation if you encountered it?
I was walking around a big outdoor street festival in a neighboring city last weekend. It was a great event. The city blocked off all the streets around the main town square. They set up a couple of stages for musical performances. There were dozens of food trucks, places where one could buy an adult beverage, a play area for lit ..read more

Last Sunday I taught a shotgun class. A curious thing happened. I snapped a quick picture and shared it on Facebook the day after the class. Here’s what I posted:
“A thought for all you folks who prefer bird shot for self defense…
In the shotgun class I taught yesterday, a student missed the target and hit the clip holding the target to the frame. This was the result of a load of bird shot from 15 feet away. Not a single pellet penetrated a cheap binder clip.
This is not what you should be trusting for your family’s safety ..read more

Two weeks ago, I spent three days teaching and learning at the Rangemaster Tactical Training Conference in Dallas. I’ve now taught at the last 11 Tactical conferences and my TacCon blocks are regularly some the most fun classes I teach every year.
The conference consists of three days of material taught by more than 40 different world-class instructors. Each instructor teaches blocks lasting between two and eight hours long on a variety of tactical topics. It’s an opportunity to get a lot of top notch training at a very reasonable price.

The now-deceased criminal who handcuffed the elderly homeowner
Did you see the news last week about the 85-year old woman who was handcuffed to a chair during a home invasion? The woman covertly accessed a .357 magnum revolver and shot her assailant while still handcuffed. Unfortunately, the attacker shot the woman as well. The elderly homeowner remained cuffed to the chair for 10 hours before police arrived. She lived. Her attacker did not.
Handcuffs are somewhat unusual in home invasions, but being restra ..read more
