This recipe is such a hit in our house and so easy to make! I LOVE finding delicious recipes we can use ground beef in since we have so much processed. It’s rich, comforting, and a recipe you can easily make swaps due to dietary issues. I use gluten free shells when I make this. My daughters and I had a home school Christmas craft day last week and made some of these fun salt dough ornaments. They were so easy and a lot of fun for us to do together! The recipe is simple and we enjoyed making some traditional Christmas ornaments as well as some western. We also share this on our free Christmas Craft Printable Calendar for the Podcast. You’ll love this because it’s easy, inexpensive, versatile, and custom to you! We had a lot of fun with all of the cookie cutters we had and took a quick trip to the craft store for some new paint colors. Supplies These are what we used ..read more

Ranch Wife Gift Wrapping
The Farm Girl Blog

When I was a little girl, my mom would wrap some of our gifts up in feed sacks and it’s one of those small, simple Christmas memories from my childhood that I remember.  Typically the sacks were brown and she’d deck them out with a cute western bow and gift tag. When she’d go for a load of horse feed or cubes, she’d have them give her some unfilled bags they hadn’t used yet for the feed they mixed there. I always loved it and thought it was such a clever way to wrap our gifts while also being a nod to our way of life.  I decided to bring that back this year and talked a little bit ..read more

Our Favorite Christmas Books
The Farm Girl Blog
by Kenzie Ashcraft

Our family LOVES books and no matter how old my kids get, I’m still going to break out all of the picture books and read to them. I am drawn to stories that spark imagination and have beautiful illustrations. Christmas books always seem to be on another level when it comes to those things. Every year I have a large stack of books near the tree that I let the girls choose from each night to read before bed. Some are books we’ve bought, others are from my childhood and even my moms. These are just a few we have out but I’m going to share a link to a complete list of all of our favorite picture ..read more

Homemade Fire Starters

I have always loved homemade gifts. There’s something special about someone taking the time to hand make a gift for another. The thought seems to mean a little more than going out and purchasing an item that’s already made and you get to put your flair on it. With the holidays, the budget gets pretty tight and if you have several to buy for, it might be difficult to do so for everyone on your list. This is why I LOVE this simple, easy, and inexpensive gift that is perfect for the cozy holiday season. You can make multiple versions and package it in a variety of ways while using several supplie ..read more

I am SO excited to share our experience at Mi Vida Loca in Beavers Bend with you all. We are so grateful for the opportunity to have been able to stay with them earlier this month in this beautiful cabin. We frequent Broken Bow every year with the kids and have enjoyed making it a fall family tradition. Tucked away in the rolling hills of Eastern Oklahoma, Mi Vida Loca was designed to create a space where life can slow down, distractions are minimized, and families and friends can reconnect with each other and nature. Filled with intentional living opportunities, this cabin offers the perfect ..read more

Fall on the Ranch
The Farm Girl Blog

I can’t believe we are halfway through November already. It seems like September came and the days have flown by. Fall is one of my favorite seasons on the ranch. Fall calving isn’t like spring calving but I love the new babies that have been dropping, the foliage changing color on the trees, putting the gardens to bed, and the nice temperatures. It’s my favorite time to ride and we just enjoy slowing down after the hay season has ended. Mums, pumpkins, and cozy fall smells. It truly is a close tie with Christmas around here for me. I made a big pot of chicken & dumplings the other night ..read more
