Do you have an opinion regarding IWI Pistols, such as the Masada 9mm? -From Arthur G. Answer: IWI is a gun manufacturer based in Israel. They have been in operation since 1933 and are best known for producing the UZI. The Masada 9mm is a 17-round capacity, striker-fired, polymer pistol. It’s often compared to Glocks. One of the most important things in my opinion is clean drinking water. Which do you think is better, purification tablets or a water filter? -From Casey M. Answer: The question of filtering water vs. treating water really depends on what your situation is. Basically, if you are drinking water from a mountain river then the water is probably pretty clean and you could simply use iodine tablets. However, there are a few different reasons why I prefer using a water filter to get fresh drinking water. First and most importantly, in a survival situation, chances are that I would be drinking from a ..read more

I work in a high rise hotel in New York City. We regularly have guests from other countries who ask us what they should do during an emergency. They ask what the best way is to get out of the hotel? Any suggestions when it’s a massive building? -From Martha K. Answer: What I recommend doing is having a flashlight (and whatever weapons are allowed) in your office or room. If anything seems out of the ordinary, make for the exits immediately. On September 11th, people didn’t initially evacuate because management came over the speakers and told them to remain in their offices. Tell guests to igno ..read more

Decades ago, a man named Jules D. started a life of self-sufficiency. He decided to grow his own food because he was concerned about what was being put into his children’s food. Eventually, Jules and his three adult children took their idea to the heart of Southern California. The family purchased a 4,000-square-foot lot in Pasadena, CA. At the time Jules said, “I brought the country to the city rather than having to go out to the country.” For years, the family grew almost all the food they ate. The only things they purchased were staples such as rice, wheat, and oats. The garden included 400 ..read more
