Connecting with a friend when you feel isolated as a caregiver can lift your mood. But as a long-distance caregiver, I have moved back in with my parents and visited my home, husband, and fur snuggle buddies 720 miles away; I have lost touch with the friends I grew up with. They’ve moved out of my hometown. I do connect with my cousin, who was a childhood friend, and that is a plus. It takes my mind off the stressful situations I find myself in as I care for my elderly parents. As a plus, she works with Medicare and has provided invaluable help and insight in addition to finding the best cover ..read more

Daily writing prompt
Do you spend more time thinking about the future or the past? Why?

Today is a result of all my yesterdays which have shaped who I am at the moment. My recent past has helped me face the future with clarity. When you lose someone you love, you can’t escape the immediate past. And the long-range vision of yesterday, becomes clearer.
I took care of my parents for four years and they recently passed away within 3 months of each other. Grief certainly affects your present. So yes, recently I dwelled on the past remembering those moments of love and embracin ..read more

As a fellow caregiver, I know firsthand the challenges and joys of caring for others. It takes a lot of strength, patience, and love to be a caregiver, and every single one of you makes a difference in someone’s life. Seeing this photo reminds me of something important: that we are not alone in our caregiving journeys. So many others are going through similar experiences, and connecting with them is essential for support and encouragement.

Embracing the Memories
Anita Henson
As the holiday season paints our world with warmth and nostalgia, I am a Caregiver Embracing the Memories and Remembering the love shared. I reflect on the bittersweet memories of my time as a caregiver. This year, I want to honor those precious moments, celebrate the love shared, and ignite a spark of hope within myself and other caregivers.
Amid our own stories, we often stumble upon unexpected paths. For me, it was the role of caring for my dear parents, who passed away shortly after receiving their booster vaccines. The memories flood back, a mix of tea ..read more

We are a family of caregivers who met on chat. Some have met others in person while traveling and purposefully stopped to meet.
How do you spend your time when you get free time from your caregiving duties?
Caregiving requires your full attention. Caring for both parents became more difficult after Dad fractured his hip when he fell. Taking care of Mom and helping her change clothes after breakfast took my eyes o ..read more
