March is my month. I get to celebrate another trip around the sun for one of my daughter-in-loves, one of my grandsons, and myself in March. My birthday is the 9th if you’re interested. I don’t mind people making a big deal about it. I’m thrilled to still be alive! But back to why I love March… My favorite flower blooms in March. The SEC tournament is in March. There’s that day we wear green or get pinched in March. The first day of Spring is March 19. AND we’ll get to meet our eighth grandchild later in March. Have I told you about her? She’s named already–Maury Bird Buchanan. We’ll call he ..read more

Saint Francis of Assisi (Francie) Buchanan In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, this newsletter features a little love story. And, like any love story, it’s emotional. So, if you don’t like emotions, jump over the next block of text and head straight to the book reviews toward the end of the post. (You’ve been warned.) First, Get Your Kleenex When our youngest son left for college, our nest felt too empty. So, we did what any sane, albeit mildly grieving, parents would do–we found another baby. A baby born in a barn, which, if you think it over, has divine implications. We always have named our ..read more

I love NEW! The words fresh, start, change, and begin light all my sparklers. There’s an exciting mystery with every calendar page turn. What will this year bring? How will I be challenged? What will I accomplish? Who will I meet? I admire everyone who sets resolutions, establishes a special “word” for the year, and/or writes down specific goals. I’m sure that would benefit me, but it’s just not happening. I’m more of a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-stretchy-pants kind of gal. And I’m not ashamed of that, except for when it drives someone around me completely bonkers. I’m sure that I’m annoying some ..read more

It happened alright. Thanksgiving-Birthday-Christmas celebration over the course of mere hours is a Buchanan tradition (every other year…does that count?). I was so busy I didn’t get to take many pictures, but we did manage to pull this one off. I’m being particularly brave publishing this because I didn’t brush my hair before we took the picture! It didn’t even cross my mind that day. Fortunately, I sleep on a Blissy, and it wasn’t a total wreck. Well, don’t look too closely…Just enjoy the kids. They’re the real stars. Merry Christmas from the Buchanans! We put the Christmas tree up on ..read more

What Month is This?!–aka The November Newsletter

Hey! It’s November! I have to keep telling myself that because I tend to forget (or is it denial?) that Thanksgiving and Christmas are waving their hands at me like castaways trying to be discovered. It just shouldn’t be the end of the year. And yet… But, before I say goodbye to October, I have to review all the fantastic things that occurred. As promised, here are a few pictures of Mom’s and my “60-80” trip to Provence (if you didn’t read last month’s newsletter, go here to catch up). Everywhere you turn, the view is spectacular. Mom and I enjoyed relaxing in Cezanne's garden, loved wa ..read more

Ooo-la-la October! September was jam-packed with all sorts of fun–book clubs, garden clubs, and a trip to Chicago for the Women’s Fiction Writers Association 10th Anniversary Conference. I’ve sprinkled some pics throughout. But by the time you read this I’ll be in Provence, France, trying to conquer jet lag. I plan on doing that by eating every croissant in sight. I know this is not a typical cure, but I’m creative. This trip was supposed to happen in 2020, but do you remember what was going on then? Yep, the pandemic. (Is there anyone reading this who wasn’t able to answer that? No. No ther ..read more
