The Toronto Maple Leafs, minus Matthews, were able to make it to Game 6 with a tight 2-1 win in OT. Swayman thwarted them quite a few times but Woll also stepped up big and helped them with the W. Interestingly, by the metrics it was probably the Leafs best offensive game. The Nashville Predators got a win over the Canucks to keep that series going. The Florida Panthers move forward to the second round of the NHL playoffs, with a resounding offensive performance againt Tampa. That have the 2nd best offensive metrics so far in the playoffs in xGF with 3.94. A very hot offense and made more impressive by decidedly lower Corsi & Fenwick compared to other teams. Dallas got the all important win over the Knights yesterday to tie it up. Good chance Dallas take that series. The Knights have been pretty piss-poor metric wise, with some real bad defensive issues. Wow – after the first three games, who would have expected a tight 1 goal game for the Oilers vs Kings in game 4? The Oilers now lead 3-1 and head back to Edmonton to likely wrap things up. Quite the day in the NHL, as both Tampa and the Islanders gave themselves lifelines yesterday. The Dallas Stars also pulled off an extremely impressive victory in Vegas, to breathe life into that series. And although I got grannied, it was worth it just to see the Leafs lose. Whew – what started out as a poor night for me turned into a mini-profitable night. Neither of the early games went over, and props to the Canucks for holding the Preds like that. Rangers/Caps had the goaltending that really helped and it was gutting that the Caps couldn’t get a goal in that third period. Well my first fears when I made the series prediction of the Stars winning is coming true – they have been unable to get that all-vital win and break that hoodoo, and it’s looking likely that they get sweeped. 1-1 with my bets yesterday. The Bruins fielded Swayman and got the W, and the Kings showed what got them in the playoffs with a great 5-4 OT win over the Oilers. Today just the two games which is nice. Horrific news for Canucks fans, as Demko was out yesterday and potentially for the series. As soon as the news was out we updated our post to say not to take the Canucks bet, but will of course include the L in our stats because we didn’t make it goalie dependent. It was a battle, but the Leafs got that all-important first win in the series yesterday, at a nice 2.23 price, to tie the series up against the Boston Bruins. The Canes had a massive third period to beat the Islanders 5-3, and that’s got to be crushing for NYI. The NHL playoffs are underway, and the referees weren’t sleeping when it came to screwing over the Leafs. They were out there conspiring from the get-go, as the Leafs got thumped 5-1 by the Bruins.
