In reply to Phoenix. Hi Phoenix, Thanks for such a lovely and thoughtful message…I really appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback, it means a lot to hear my posts are helping people! I’m so sorry to hear about your ongoing hair loss. Having got it myself for the first time when I was 11, I can totally relate to the challenges of being a teenager with alopeica, and how frustrating it is to watch the situation get even worse with age. Changing hormones certainly don’t help, especially in the postpartum period as you mentioned! I’m so sorry you had to go through all of that. But goo ..read more

In reply to Vikki Watt. Hi Vikki, I’m sure you’ll still see some benefits as the serums are a great way to cleanse and nourish the scalp. Nioxin does recommend a three-part system for best results though (the shampoo, conditioner and serum) and that’s what’s worked for me in the past. But of course, using the serums in conjunction with your usual haircare products (if they work for you) is better than not using them at all! Thanks so much for your question, and good luck with your Nioxin serums! Emma / Lady Alopecia x ..read more

In reply to Sylvia. Hi Sylvia! Thanks so much for your lovely feedback about my site – I really appreciate it! i’m really sorry to hear about your hair loss and like you, I wouldn’t be a massive fan of long-term steroid injections, either. I had them when I was 16 and they had pretty bad side effects, which is why I prefer a more natural approach now! Yes, I’d still recommend Revita as it’s a super-natural approach to managing hair loss or encouraging growth in bald patches. It gently cleanses that oil from your scalp, without drying it out and it’s actually recommended 5 days a week inst ..read more

Hi Lady Alopecia, I want to start out by thanking you for taking the time and effort to create a safe space to discuss alopecia in women. I love your way of writing and your balanced honest reviews! I started losing hair at the age of 15 or so, and things have been going on a gradual downward spiral for me (through 2 postpartum sheds, Covid, stress, etc). It took me a long time to realize the harshness of my situation. Now I have started supplements, serums, yoga, etc. My daughter has started experiencing mild hair fall just before covid happened. During complete lockdown (as was the case in t ..read more

Hello Ladyalopecia! So happy I found your page – such amazing information! I had my first bald spot show up about 6 months ago. My dermatologist started me on a once a day topical steroid and injections once a month to which I responded well but then a couple other spots showed up and I don’t like the idea of having to continue the injections for too long. I have thin hair but a lot of it and there are no signs of general hair loss just the bald spots. Also, my scalp is extremely oily so tons of build up – my dermatologist said I have to wash my hair at least every other day. Would you still r ..read more

In reply to Lola. Hi Lola, I’m so sorry to hear about your bad experience with Keranique. It’s quite common for a change in hair texture and even more hair fall when you switch to a new treatment but that really should stop after 2-3 weeks. If you’ve been using it for this long and you’re still experiencing hair loss, I think you’re right to switch to something else. Bear in mind, most hair growth treatments take at least 3 months for results so if you can bear it, maybe continue to this time if you can. I haven’t used Biosilk before but 2 of the treatments I’d recommend most are Revita shampo ..read more

In reply to Addie. Hi Addie, Thanks so much for sharing your experience with Nioxin – it’s wonderful to hear that it stopped your shedding so soon! And I hope changing the way you’ve been using the foam will make it less stiff/sticky, too. I am sorry to hear that it’s changed the texture of your hair, though. This is most likely due to the sulfates (Nioxin didn’t used to contain them, but unfortunately since P&G took over in 2008, they added sulfates). I didn’t have this problem as I was bald when I started using Nioxin and then, only had very short hair so it didn’t make it frizzy or anyt ..read more

In reply to Rebecca. Hi Rebecca, thanks so much for sharing the lovely story of you and your husband! I’m so, so sorry to hear about your sudden hair loss though, that sounds incredibly traumatic and it must’ve been the most awful shock. But wow, what a wonderfully positive attitude you have about it! And it certainly helps to have the right partner there to support us and cheer us on. To do that extra gesture of buying you headscarves is just the most beautiful thing. I’m so happy for you and enjoy embracing that new style!! Love Emma x ..read more

I felt so validated when I read your article! I am a 61 year old woman. Within the last 4 weeks I lost ALL if my beautiful, brown, naturally curly hair. I believe it was one of the most traumatic times of my life…however, now that it is gone, I feel so free and strong and beautiful! My husband of 38.5 years has been so loving and supportive and “here” for me. He surprised me with a set of 6 beautiful headscarves and it touched my heart to the core. I get countless compliments and I’m told how pretty I am and much I glow! I actually think all of the hair hid my face before! Bless you ..read more
