Ahhhh….the million dollar question, and "Are barre classes good for weight loss"is one of the highest ranking google search queries in connection to barre. Now what does that say? Well, we don’t like to judge, but we also don’t like to see good people mislead by mythical bullshit. And the truth is, that no, barre probably won’t help you lose weight. Unless, that is, you’re on a highly controlled diet and doing 4 classes a day. And even that’s totally unsustainable. We need to shift the narrative. We need to focus on what our bodies can DO, not what they look like, or worse, what the number on ..read more

You’re at a party and overhear someone talking to a group of friends. “My legs were shaking like a baby deer trying to walk for the first time.” Intrigued, you interrupt and ask what they’re talking about. “Barre!” they all chime in unison - insert blank expression. One lady begins to lower into some plies and pulses in the middle of the room, whilst another sings Barre’s praises as if she is trying to sell you the latest pair of designer leggings on Farfetch. Usually they lack specificity, relevancy and/or genuine self-belief. Can you, hand on heart, say that you have ever really kept a resolution? And what happens at the end of the year, even if you do? Do you just tick a box, celebrate with a box of doughnuts and revert back to old habits? So, is the answer to abandon all hope of making positive changes or affirmations in your life? No. Maybe you could think a little differently. I ..read more

School holidays are officially done and dusted, and there’s no home schooling in (near) site. You’ve made the mother of all To Do Lists; organising the junk drawer, reading a new novel, family meal planning and exercising regularly right at the top of the list. But does sending the children back to school answer all your exercise prayers….? Despite well documented evidence advocating the benefits of exercise for physical and mental health, we discovered that mothers prioritise looking after the household over exercise. Now, a study in the British Journal of Sports Medicine suggests that routin ..read more
