What's in a step? We all love to track our steps and see the circles on our watch close or the goals on our fit bits increase.  We know that walking is good for us and the more we walk the better we feel but what really goes into each and everyone one of those 10,000 steps a day???? Did you know that each foot consists of 26 bones, 30 joints and more than 100 muscles, tendons and ligaments?  Nearly one-fourth of our bodies bones are in our feet!  These bones are an essential piece of the structure that supports our body weight.   When we begin to walk and add frictio ..read more

The Pilates Method teaches you to be in control of your body and not at its mercy. – Joseph Pilates Spring is coming!  Are you ready to go for a hike?  Hop in a kayak? Swim on vacation? Whatever your goals and desires, Pilates can get you there! Joseph Pilates created his technique to help us live better!  He firmly believed (as we all do!) that the human body was designed for movement and longevity.  He also recognized, however, that our lifestyles have disrupted our ability to move with ease and efficiency.  He developed the PIlates Method of Contrology based upon ..read more

You would be shocked at how many times during a week we hear things like, "I hate my thighs", "my arms are too big", "how can I reshape my butt".  And all of these comments come from the healthiest, strongest women you've ever seen!  Why is it that we are so hard on ourselves!!!! We all have a tendency to focus on the things about ourselves that we don't like and rarely acknowledge our strengths.  While it is certainly important to set goals and consistently work to improve upon ourselves mentally, emotionally and physically; it is almost impossible to become the hea ..read more

We are so excited to announce that we are moving! While we love our cozy little studio, we realize that it is time for more space. And, fortunately for all of us, that space is just two doors down! Yes, this winter we will be moving just down the sidewalk to a larger space which used to be part of Record and Tape Traders. It is twice the size of our current space and will allow for two formal studios- a larger one for barre/yoga classes, and a smaller one for Pilates classes. And the best part...two restrooms! Join us in sharing this great news with all of your Barre friends! We are so looki ..read more

Did you know that on an average day you take 23,000 breaths? Most of the time, we are completely unaware of these breath cycles and of their importance to our overall health and well-being. When not practiced correctly, our breathing patterns often become shallow and quickened. This habit of thoracic (or chest) breathing can lead to all kinds of physical ailments including postural deficiencies, muscle tightness, headaches, neck pain, as well as, lessened lymphocytes and the proteins that signal immune cells. These shallow breaths can also lead to panic attacks, dry mouth, fatigue and leave us ..read more

Happy Sunday, Everyone! This week begins our modified summer schedule. We understand how difficult maintaining an exercise routine can be as schedules and seasons change. However, we also know how important it is to be consistent! We have all had the experience of a week's vacation turning into a month away from the barre or a busy fall turning into a year of no exercise. Oftentimes, a small break from our regular routine can lead us down a path that makes it harder and harder to get back to a dedicated program. So whatever you do this summer, don't let that small break be the beginning of an ..read more
