Hi everyone, I’m Ollie and you may have read about me in last month’s Boys Ride Too Magazine. BRT magazine wanted to know more about my riding life and competing at British Showjumping (BS) competitions, so here’s a short update about what we got up to during February. At the beginning of the month we visited Victoria de Sousa in Newmarket with my horse Lucky in preparation for the British Showjumping (BS) Spring Summer Season which runs from April to September. We tried our hand at some 1.05m and 1.10m jumps. Lucky worked really well clearing the heights and didn’t seem fazed or worried. I f ..read more

I qualified for the Pony Club Spring Festival on the 31st of December my 12th birthday. I entered the Debut (85cm) and the Challenge (95cm). It was the first time I had jumped a course of 95cm at a show and mum and I were really pleased as I qualified for both classes. We did not realise that the festival was such a big deal and decided to go as our first stay away this year. The lead up to the show was terrible with flooding, snow and ice which meant I only had 6 lessons to prepare! I was really lucky that the amazing Showjumper Elliott Smith was able to help me. I’ve always looked up to him ..read more

This is our first blog by a mum, not a boy. Its a very important message for all our boys and girls to remember. On the last day at the Jumping Championships of Great Britain at Cricklands, Oliver was very tired and lost his way for a split second on the final heat for the 10 and unders. It cost him a few seconds and came 11th just missing out on a rosette. Walking the course for 11 and under finals he was having real difficulty learning it (so was I to be honest!) Walking out Oliver said to me "there's no point in me jumping this class as everyone is a better rider than me". I told him he's a ..read more

Hi! I am Zachary Bradshaw, I am 9 years old, and I do a lot of British Showjumping with my two ponies Woody and Mickey. Me and my friends saw the Facebook post from Boys Ride Too and Equine PoleWork, and thought we would give it a good go. photo credit Dave Gaskell Me, Matilda, Abi, Amelie and Samantha got cracking setting up some equipment using the guide. We had lots of fun setting up the poles and even more fun riding the mini fun course. We tested our horses ability by doing some trot and canter poles, and also some bending between cones and worked on our transitions to reassure that we h ..read more

Endurance riding - a great sport for all. Heath Ashley

My name is Heath Ashley and I am 13 years old. I have been riding since I was 2 years old. I am in pony club and I do a lot of show jumping on my own horse, Grace, but I have always enjoyed hacking out which then led to my interest in endurance riding. I had done a few pleasure rides on my own horses over the last couple of years and really enjoyed it. Late last year, a lady called Thay Stephenson messaged my mum to see if I would be interested to ride her horse, Sheer Bliss, for the following endurance season. My mum already knew Thay and had always liked Bliss, so she spoke to me and I was ..read more

Hi guys Charlie Boardman here … some of you may know already as I have written a few articles for BRT. I work in the industry, producing my young horse, am a freelance instructor and also the West Lancashire eventing team captain. Here is just a short update of how me and my young horse Edd are doing, going into his first event season. I hope to keep you informed and take you on a journey with me through the 2022 event season. I remember the first time I did my first BE event (British Eventing) and said to my Dad; look there’s more lads my age competing than girls and that was one of the firs ..read more

Hi I’m Peter Gregory, I’m 14 years old and I live in the New Forest. I competed in the New Forest Point to Point on Boxing Day, Boys Ride Too wrote a Facebook post about it and because so many of you were interested I’ve been asked to write a blog about my race this year on Byzan. The New Forest Boxing Day Point to Point race 2021 was Damp, Muddy and Fast! I moved from Hertfordshire to the New Forest just before lockdown and so this was the first year I had friends racing with me. It was nice to see people I knew at the meeting point where we were all unloading our ponies and getting ready. W ..read more

Wet weather horsey fun. William Davenport

Hi guys! So, let’s talk about wet weather… As I live in the wonderful wet United Kingdom, the weather is leaning towards the wet and cold side most days, especially in the winter. Recently it has been very wet and a couple of weeks ago it was just horrendous in the storm. With gale force winds and rain it doesn’t make the most fun or safe environment to ride horses in. We have an outdoor school on our yard and its in a very exposed area, so wind hits you square in the face and makes the horses unpredictable and very fizzy! So, when the weather is against us, I’ve been doing what I can to keep ..read more
