After a successful opener for the DIRTcar Sportsman Series North Region, two more regions will open their 2024 season this weekend. The Central Region kicks off its five-race campaign at Brewerton Speedway in Central Square, NY on Friday, May 10, in a 30-lap Feature paying $1,000-to-win.  Then, it’s the East Region’s turn, opening at Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford, VT on Saturday, May 11, in a 40-lap, $1,057-to-win Feature. With safety always at the forefront of every race, Super DIRTcar Series and DIRTcar Northeast officials are aiming to not only increase safety efforts for their series, but also the entire Northeast. Tim Sears Jr. had the most successful year of his career in 2023, picking up two track championships. Now, he’ll try for a step better and end the year as a Super DIRTcar Series champion. The Hastings, NY driver won the Brewerton Speedway and Fulton Speedway track championships for the first time last year. With the best interests of traveling teams and fans in mind and weather models expecting rain from Saturday night into Sunday morning, DIRTcar Northeast and Fulton Speedway officials have decided to postpone Saturday’s Highbank Holdup 60. The DIRTcar 358 Modified Series race has been rescheduled to Wednesday, June 19. For the past four seasons, Tyler Corcoran has been the man to beat at Can-Am Speedway. The four-time and defending track champion proved that hasn’t changed Friday night, leading all 30 laps to win the DIRTcar Sportsman Series North Region season opener. Corcoran, the pole sitter, brought the field to the green flag alongside Eric Nier, another Can-Am track regular. The battle to become the top DIRTcar weekend warrior begins this weekend. Drivers who compete weekly at DIRTcar-sanctioned tracks throughout the Northeast and Canada can earn extra money in the Hoosier Tire Weekly Racing championship. From now until Labor Day, the drivers who earn the most points will be crowned champions in the Big Block Modified, 358 Modified, Sportsman, Pro Stock, and 4-Cylinder divisions. With persistent rain in the LaFargeville, NY area, and more expected through Friday, according to Precision Weather Service, DIRTcar Northeast and Can-Am Speedway officials have agreed to cancel Friday’s portion of Thunder in the Thousand Islands weekend headlined by the DIRTcar 358 Modified Series.
