As I am writing this, thinking back at the time investment, and perseverance it took to make this compostable scoop possible. I am grateful to Jeff and Jenny for trusting me to lean into my connections and research to break the mold for this scoop and I am so happy to see it has finally reached Endurance Fuel and Recovery Mix bags!  Looking back on previous emails, I finally see the complete timeline. The first email reaching out to World Centric, on April 12, 2022, it must have been the approaching Earth Day that inspired me to give this a shot.  World Centric was at one time a di ..read more

Before I qualified, it was a dream I didn’t dare to have. After, I questioned whether signing up was worth the travel time and cost. But I decided to go and do the thing. Just once. That was 4 Boston Marathons ago.   In the world of marathon running, no city evokes more wonderment. But why? Sure, the exclusivity of acceptance and even the difficulty of the event has its own draw. And the city itself is a mecca for tourism, with its rich history, sports enthusiasm, impeccable cuisine, and oh those cherry blossom trees along the Charles! But it’s the people who REALLY make this th ..read more

Looking for the best way to fuel your adventures? Tailwind has you covered with some simple instructions. To start, mix 200 calories of Endurance Fuel with 24 oz of water per hour of exercise. For example, a 4-hour workout would require 800 calories (8 scoops or 4 single serving packets) mixed with 96 oz of water. If you need a more concentrated option for carrying around during a marathon, consider making a gel-like Endurance Fuel concentrate. Calculate your total caloric needs and mix it with just enough water to make it viscous. Mark your bottle according to your total race time and aim for ..read more

It has been a winter of training with a wide variety of activities. From all types skiing, snowshoeing, and some biking (when trails allowed), to fitting in strengthening/conditioning, we have tried to follow Joe Friel’s training guide. We both have been looking forward to the Build period where we’d start riding the trails for longer and with more intensity. Unfortunately, life had some other ideas… We started off with a bang heading down to Phoenix and riding the McDowell Meltdown marathon race (43 miles/2200’ elevation). Jenny’s mom lives there, so we got to see her and ride some local tra ..read more

Controlling the Controllables

One thing I’ve learned this winter during training for my first 100k is that I have to let go of the things I can’t control (see also: snow storms) and embrace what I can. Part of what I can control is how often I practice race day nutrition. In my lead-up to the 100k, I wanted to find a local shorter race to practice what I can. I was hoping for sunny and 45 but ended up getting a layer of ice, 6 inches of snow, and 17 degrees. This was a bit disappointing knowing that my race is taking place in the desert in April, it will look a bit different. It still didn’t deter me from lining up at the ..read more

Being a Woman in Sport- A Meaningful Endeavor

Humans love to pursue their potential. Aristotle spoke of a eudaimonic life with meaning toward virtuous actions like wisdom, courage, humanity, justice, temperance, and transcendence. Jonathan Haidt translates a eudaimonic life to one where one develops one’s strengths, realizes one's potential, and becomes what is authentic to one's own nature. As a female in elite sport who has had the opportunity to be a leader, I have found my role challenging and deeply meaningful. Initially, I started running and cycling because I enjoyed pushing myself and, dare I even say, proving myself. Over time, i ..read more
