The Scottish quartet like to experiment between the worlds of noise rock, psychedelic rock and grunge, with bands like SMASHING PUMPKINS, SONIC YOUTH and SOUNDGARDN being named as influences. The album itself, recorded live, focuses on the concept of a man trying to figure out his destiny in life which leads to him losing his sanity, yet could this truly be the end? ALBUM REVIEW: The Shape Of Fluidity – Dool
Distorted Sound Magazine » Psychedelic Rock
by Gavin Brown

DOOL have been making waves for a while now but their new album The Shape Of Fluidity could and should be the album that takes the fast-rising Dutch band to another level with its vast and majestic nature in all its forms. This is kaleidoscopic music that takes in sublimely beautiful parts, much heavier parts and so much more in between and the results are both soaring and breathtaking, with DOOL on captivating form throughout. From the immediate opening salvo of Venus In Flames, The Shape Of Fluidity takes a hold of you and doesn’t let you go until the last notes of majestic album closer The ..read more

GODS OF SOMETIMES are a new band who consist of Andrew Giacumakis (who also plays in MOAB) and Brad Hill (from FU MANCHU) and released their self-titled debut album last year. While the band’s music on the album is a long way from either of their main bands, being that it is a lot mellower and hazier, it still comes with the same passion. The pair between them, perform everything on the album with a bit of help from some special guest friends along this musical journey like J Mascis from Dinosaur Jr and Steven Drozd from Flaming Lips  and it sounds like a perfect summer listening experien ..read more

ALBUM REVIEW: Tarantula Heart – Melvins
Distorted Sound Magazine » Psychedelic Rock
by Tom Lewis

If you’ve ever listened to grunge, stoner rock, doom, sludge or drone, the chances are you’ll have heard a MELVINS influence in there somewhere. A legendary band with a prolific output, their earlier work in particular has been credited with inspiring the likes of NIRVANA, MASTODON, BORIS and EARTH. Having released their proto-sludge debut Gluey Porch Treatments in 1987, you’d probably expect them to be putting their feet up on a back porch somewhere, taking it easy and occasionally reuniting to tour work from their ‘classic’ era to rake in the money. Well, you couldn’t be ..read more

Situated in the remains of ancient volcanic flow areas, at the middle ford of Bear Creek surrounded by mountains, lies the small city of Medford, Oregon. At this cross point where heaven and Earth collide, nature flourishes and deep within it lives the heavy psych trio ELK WITCH. Formed in 2019, Deven Andersen (guitar, vocals), Darren Wostenberg (bass), and Joe Coitus (drums) combine classic psych rock and progressive doom to create luscious psychedelic atmospheres and hard-hitting bluesy riffs. Drawing comparisons to the legendary BLACK SABBATH alongside THE SWORD and THE OBSESSED, the band p ..read more

ALBUM REVIEW: Double Dog Dare – White Dog
Distorted Sound Magazine » Psychedelic Rock
by James Holder
2w ago
A lot has changed for WHITE DOG since the release of their debut album back in 2021. While releasing an album in the middle of a global pandemic is less than ideal, not being able to tour and roadtest new material would be a hit for any band, let alone one looking to establish themselves. In search of a reset, the band parted ways with their lead singer Joe Sterling, and brought in Jake LaTouf. Oscar Favian was also brought in on keys to add more depth to their sound. It’s impossible to know what Double Dog Dare might have sounded like without the changes, but the band have delivered an a ..read more
