When we think of the events of Creation Week, it’s the creative acts of Days 3 through 6 that most often come to mind. Plant life, stars and planets, birds and fish, dinosaurs, people — you know, all the exciting stuff. But on Day 2 there’s the quiet little account of the creation of the “expanse.” This divided the primordial water into two domains: the waters above the expanse and the waters below.

The next time you see a bus on the highway, imagine yourself in the ocean, swimming past a shark about the same size as that bus. The next time you look at your palm, imagine a shark tooth large enough to cover your entire hand. When you use a tape measure, pull out five feet of tape. Think of a dorsal fin five feet tall, emerging from the surface of the ocean and cutting through the waves.

These are the staggering dimensions of the largest shark to ever exist: the megalodon. They are so impressive that it is natural for people to be sk ..read more

If you follow creationist websites and publications, you may have noticed a numbers of papers and articles that are sharply critical of statistical baraminology over the past few years. For those who don’t follow these things, statistical baraminology is shorthand for a set of analytical tools that I’ve used for more than 20 years to explore the creationist concept of the “created kind.” I’ve focused on these methods because they help me to explore fossil creatures, which cannot be addressed by the traditional hybridization method for identifying created kinds. I’ve ..read more

One of the main questions I see from creationists who hold to an Upper Cenozoic Flood boundary, whether a Pliocene-Pleistocene model, or the even crazier ‘Ice Age fossils are Flood fossils’ idea, is, “Shouldn’t we see such-and-such living animal in Flood deposits?” followed by the corollary, “Why would such-and-such Cenozoic animal lineage be extinct today, if it survived so extensively after the Flood?” This points to a wider issue: how and where organisms show up in the fossil record and how we as creationists understand those patterns.

I raise this question because some young-age creationists (YAC) have denied this basic geological principle, called the principle of superposition, along with many aspects of the other three principles of relative dating—the principle of original horizontality, the principle of lateral continuity, and the principle of cross-cutting relationships (see link below for my recent video explaining relative dating).

My goal in this presentation will be to explore the impact the discoveries of modern molecular biology have had on our understanding of the history of life on earth. I will demonstrate using a fundamental assumption of evolutionary theory, that we can know in exquisite detail, the molecular biology of one of the earliest form of metazoan life for which we have a consonant record, the Trilobite. We will reconstruct some of the details of the molecular biology of the trilobite in order to build a case for the existence in the very first metazoan fossil of all of the major innovations represented ..read more

There are many fossils on display in the Creation Museum, just 23 minutes’ drive from Cincinnati, Ohio. One specimen is a fish preserved in the act of consuming a smaller fish. Another display showcases a horseshoe crab preserved in front of a fossil trackway it left behind. And who can forget about Ebenezer, a nearly complete skeleton of Allosaurus unearthed in Colorado? The museum holds many fossil wonders. But what many visitors don’t know is that the rocks upon which the Creation Museum stands contain even more fossils! Perhaps one of the most fossil-rich of these rocks is the Kope Formati ..read more

Why Bashing Evolution Isn’t Enough
To the average person, young-earth creationists are usually defined by their contempt of evolution and deep time. It is easy to see how this perception came about. We have spent countless books, Gospel tracts, website and journal articles, lectures, and even movies declaring that evolution is not true and that the earth is not billions of years old. The creation/evolution debate is a favorite topic of many involved in apologetics, and rightly so! The apostle Peter is quite clear that we should always be ready to defend our faith from objections (1 Peter 3:15 ..read more

New Creation exists to propagate the real work of creation scientists using a Genesis paradigm to develop testable scientific hypotheses and construct models. We believe this approach could provide the best overall explanation of the scientific data. But in doing so, we also need to acknowledge parts of our models that remain incomplete. Unsolved mysteries are wound into the very fibers of the scientific process. This is literally why we science! So why wouldn’t we expect the same level of unsolved mysteries to exist within science, even from a creationist paradigm? Unknowns should neither sca ..read more
