It’s Not Summer Yet
We’ve decided to spend the whole summer touring in the caravan. Now, the main problem is, we were a bit to eager to get started, we actually started on Wednesday 28th February, which from my 60 years experience on the planet, I realise this isn’t yet summer. I’ve named the tour the “Not The Retirement Tour Tour”, mainly because we’re not really celebrating my retirement as such.
We arrived at the Camping & Caravanning Club Site in Hertford and it was cold and wet. This would have been ok, but the pitch we were on was a bit narrow, and although it was a hardstanding pitc ..read more

Those that know me in real life, or “IRL” as the kids say, were surprised that I started a YouTube channel. I think most think I wouldn’t say boo to a goose. Mandy’s sister said on finding out, “What Graham has a YouTube channel? But he’s shy!”
Well, I understand where they are coming from. I worked for a bank, I’m well mannered (shy in some people’s mind) polite, you know the sort of person, at a party, I’m the quiet one in the corner.
I did start a YouTube channel, and, well, it gives me a voice. I’m the sort of person, in a group of people, that would listen. I don’t mean in a group of peop ..read more

On March 1st 2024, we embarked on our “Not The Retirement Tour” tour. This doesn’t mean I’ve not retired, it means, although I’m calling this my “Retirement Tour”, it isn’t really. Firstly, I retired 6 months ago and secondly, we’re not on a celebratory tour of my retirement.
I realise that will make little sense at the moment, but the reason for this tour is a bit different, however, at the moment, let’s call it my “Retirement Tour” where we are celebrating my retirement that happened 6 months ago. Oh, wait, I said that already. Damn..

Well, here we are, just over a week of being on our latest adventure, and it is quite an adventure. I don’t think we’ve still got into the groove of our current situation. Being on holiday in a caravan is one thing, being in it over an extended period is quite another. On the whole most of us are sedentary people, we like to stay in one place most of the time.
So, I’ve learnt a few lessons already. Firstly, campsites aren’t always open and aren’t always available to book as they are full. Of course I sort of already knew this, but I’d thought since the CAMC introduced deposits, they’d be more ..read more

This isn’t a situation I’ve ever needed to consider. I can’t remember that we’ve ever used the caravan in March, it’s a bit early in the season isn’t it?
Well yes, it is a bit early, but we needed to find a caravan site, somewhere near were we lived and as we’re a member of the Caravan and Motorhome Club, we decided to use their (or as it’s a club, I should say “our”) facilities. We’re members because in the main, we know what we’re getting, some argue they aren’t the cheapest, but they’re normally amongst the best. I say normally, because it isn’t always the case.
I’ve been guilty of club bas ..read more

Towing with a PHEV Tow Car
Introduction
I’ve been doing some research into towing with a PHEV tow car. One of the reasons is the amount that this type of car has dropped in value over the past few months. That being said, there are still a lot of questions before deciding if a PHEV makes a good tow car. One of the biggest one’s is the fuel economy from the engine once the battery is exhausted. Around town, you might be able to get close to 50 miles out of a single charge with a PHEV, especially the BMW X5 45e.
The unbelievable MPG figures given are achievable because the engine works in harmo ..read more

I have to say, right from the start, electric metered campsites makes perfect sense. You only pay for what you use; that sounds perfectly fair. We don’t expect campsites to subsidise our holiday, nor do we expect them to make excess profit. Although exactly what excess profit is, it’s hard to say.
We’ve recently stayed on a metered electric site, and in this article, I’ll explain the pros and cons of doing such a thing in the winter.
