I dove into the Bloomsbury neighborhood a little and developed a 5-day dream itinerary for exploring unique history, delicious dishes from a variety of places, and a quirky couple of places to feel like a local. I have to be honest, London isn’t always at the top of my list, but this itinerary firmly puts it in the top 5 best ways to spend my time. With it, I can dip into different parts of Central London without ever feeling too far from sinking into a velvet sofa with a cuppa. Day 1: Arrival and Introduction to Holborn and Bloomsbury Morning: Check-in at L'Oscar London, a lavish boutique h ..read more

Experiencing Casablanca, Morocco

I kicked off a group trip to Morocco with two full days in Casablanca, which is exactly 1 day and 22 hours more than you need to actually see the hotspots in this city and get your bearings. Be prepared to dust off your French. It’s spoken by everyone and still taught in school, until next year when the country will switch to teaching English for the first time ever. Want to try your hand at Moroccan Arabic? It will sound like a mixture of Portuguese, Spanish, French, and Arabic all rolled together. Fun Fact: Other Arab nations will not be able to understand you if you try to speak Moroccan Ar ..read more

The Magic of Greece in Autumn

Have you ever watched the movie The Moon-Spinners? It's a Disney mystery movie from 1964 with Hayley Mills and Peter McEnery. It takes place in Agios Nikolaos. It's rated PG and a little silly but it's one of my sister's (and my) favorite movies. There are sparkly stolen jewels and beaches and old windmills and goats and gunplay and a lot of cats, (even a cheetah!) and a yacht with the fabulous Pola Negri as Madame Habib. It was filmed down in Crete, and even though the thousands of Greek islands are all really different, there's an element of sameness about them in the breezes, the sunny humi ..read more

Introducing You To Ataturk, Founder of the Republic of Türkiye

I visited Ankara in February of 2023 and lived there for a month and a half during the time of terrible recovery from massive earthquakes in the southeastern part of the country. It was very emotional and the devastation traumatized the people of Türkiye and it seemed that no family was left untouched by loss. While there I explored deeper into the heart of the history of the Republic of Türkiye and Ataturk, its founder. One snowy day, I traveled to Anitkabir. Anitkabir is the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey and its first president. The memorial is located on a ..read more

With one of the largest antique markets in the world at , it’s easy to put Paris on your must-visit list just for that reason alone. My one phenomenal resource is this crazy all-France website that lists every market in the country. It’s intense. Whether you’re in Provence or Paris, you’ll find the complete list here. BROCABRAC (https://brocabrac.fr/) This site with its clever map lists all the flea markets, antique meet-ups, garage sales, and other events to pick up vintage and thrifty things. My three favorite flea markets in Paris: Les Puces de Montreuil (20th arrondissement) https://www ..read more

Vaison-la-Romaine: The Roman Heart of Provence

I have found over the past few years of travel that I love ancient things. When I was little I’d read stories about the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World over and over again. Imagining the romance of palaces with cascading gardens and mega-men giant sculptures now at the bottom of the sea. Ancient Rome and Ancient Greece thrill me. Maybe it’s also that I took Latin in high school. Our teacher, Mr. Fleming, threw a Latin Banquet each year with a roast pig and we read out poetry in Latin. It was geeky and wonderful. Maybe all those experiences added up to my loving the past so much. Visiting Va ..read more

Starting Out In Casablanca

I did not expect to find myself sitting in a Moroccan apartment at 11PM waiting for a hash delivery. Momo-short for Mohammed, and Abdo-short for Abdullah, had cooked a lamb tajine dinner for my travel pal, Celine, and me and we were talking and listening to music well into the night. Celine and I had met Momo that day while walking through downtown Casablanca. Momo had seen photos of us from his pal Abdullah’s Instagram from the day before. Abdo had given us a tour around Casablanca when we arrived and had snapped a few photos of us at the mosque and around town. Celine Beltgens is taller than ..read more
