New Trek Road Shoes

New Trek road shoes were launched today. All three were designed with input from pros and feature METNET, an exclusive technology for comfort and performance. I’ll add before we get into the launch that in the recent past road shoes were not comfortable. It took weeks to break a new pair in and they were supposed to hurt. As a matter of fact. not anymore. Designers have learned that if you’re comfortable you go faster and longer. That applies to bike fit and all the touch points; including, your feet. I’m happy Trek and Bontrager are leading product design and introducing new tech. So are my f ..read more

Remembering Tim Rutledge

Remembering Tim Rutledge (center in the featured photo from 1974)…Tim passed this week after a long, hard battle with cancer. The Pacific Northwest cycling community is mourning one of their own. This video, shot 15 years ago, is how I’m remembering Tim. Due to copyright restrictions, the video is only viewable on YouTube. In it, he’s being Tim. He was a Vault of Cross Knowledge.  I also remember Tim taking care of me in Bend when freezing rain coated the racers right before the start. Here’s what I had to say at the time: “Chris Mahan pulled me off my bike. He then dragged me to the Red ..read more

Titanium Moots Vamoots 33 made its debut today. Following a hiatus after 20 years in publishing, Bike Hugger is back with a renewed vigor. The introduction of a new Moots provides an excellent reason to resume publishing, and what better topic to kickstart the content than the latest addition to the Moots lineup? Plus, the idea of having a bike that complements the sleek design of the iPhone 15 Titanium is undoubtedly enticing. It does mine. I own two Davidson custom Ti bikes. One welded by a tech who went on to work at Moots. The Titanium Moots Vamoots 33 is crafted to evoke a sense of nostal ..read more

Curious Creatures mountain bike apparel was launched earlier this year. They are a fresh brand rooted in Bozeman, Montana. Their stated mission is to craft bold mountain biking gear for every adventurer navigating this peculiar world. Their intent, when riding bikes, is to reconnect with the carefree, curious creatures we all once were—all integral parts of nature, not separate from it. Sounds good…what they mean by that is, their apparel is ready to wear both on/off the bike. Like urban cycling gear that functions on the bike as well as in the office. I’d wear the samples they sent me on any ..read more

Cannondale Adventure Neo Allroad EQ Review
Bike Hugger
by David Schloss

The Cannondale Adventure Neo Allroad EQ is at first glance a visually strange ebike, with its massively oversized tires, equally massive battery, fenders, lights, and a rack brazed onto the stays. It is equal parts ungainly and beautiful. Is it a commuter bike? A trail bike? A city bike? Cannondale Adventure Neo Allroad The bike is all of those things and a lot more. The Adventure Neo Allroad EQ is a shit-kicker bike, able to handle just about any trail I throw at it. And unlike many of the ebikes I have reviewed, riding is incredibly fun. I had knee replacement surgery several months ago, and ..read more

Fernflow Liner Bib Shorts+

Fernflow liner bib shorts are now available. Slowly but surely, Gorewear is completing their MTB line and the latest piece is a liner bib. It pairs perfectly with their rugged Fernflow shorts. I appreciate the ruggedization because where I’m riding now, the vegetation is massively overgrown. Trees in a burn scar will also leave a charcoal mark. I’ve had a branch tear a hole in a jersey. I trust the Fernflow pieces aren’t that fragile. Fernflow Liner Bib Shorts+ under Fernflow shorts. Where the bibs really stand out is they’re designed to prevent overheating, provide comfort, and add pockets. W ..read more

Vinco Performance Amazonite is announced this morning. That’s a new color for Vinco eyewear. Here is a story about Vinco from June. I’ve been wearing a pair ever since then. All in all what I like best is how they fit, are light, don’t slip or fog, and perform. Made from trees is a bonus. Vinco sells the Sola and Terra (MSRP $249 a pair of $379 for a bundle). I wear both for road or mountain days. Another key point, the Sola lens is optimized for bright conditions. The Terra lens is optimized for overcast sky conditions. Vinco does not sell interchangeable lenses. For one thing, they don’t thi ..read more

Scicon Aeroscopes Tailored Fit launched earlier this year. I won’t let the summer end before sharing my impressions. Especially after an exciting Tour this year and we can expect more from the Giro. While I’m not racing, I do still enjoy a good climb or sprint finish. I also enjoyed the innovative approach to fit Scicon developed. Stylish and adjustable. The temple arms adjust horizontally. The nosepiece vertically. Each are adjustable by 5mm. The nose pads and temples tips are also adjustable. For the long climbs in hot weather, a funnel is cut into the lens to allow airflow preventing foggin ..read more
