Dynamo Multiplayer is an amazing free plugin developed by Bird Tools. You can click here to download it. This is the third post in a series of 3 about linking Revit to Excel with Dynamo. Click here to download the entire series in PDF format, along with 2 dynamo scripts. Watch the video tutorial: This plugin allows you too: Batch run one or multiple scripts on several Revit models, including ACC/BIM 360 models. Schedule these scripts to run while you are away. Let’s use the script we’ve just created and see how it can be batched and scheduled on multiple models. UPDATING ROOM INFO ON ..read more

This is the second post in a series of 3 about linking Revit to Excel with Dynamo. Click here to download the entire series in PDF format, along with 2 dynamo scripts. In this post, you will learn how to create a Dynamo script that pushes information from Excel to Revit. In this scenario, we imagine that a project manager updates a spreadsheet with room information. The BIM manager needs to push this data to Revit. In addition, we have more requirements: The script should work with any project. The data might not always be in the same order. That means the Name column might sometimes be ..read more

This is the first post in a series of 3 about linking Revit to Excel with Dynamo. Click here to download the entire series in PDF format, along with 2 dynamo scripts. Here is a video version of this post: In this guide, you will learn how to generate a list of rooms from an Excel spreadsheet into Revit. The Revit rooms still have to be manually placed, but the information such as Name, number department and area required have been pre-filled. This is the Excel spreadsheet created by the project manager. Here are all the steps you need to automate the process in Revit. 1- CREATE AREA REQUIRE ..read more

Our last guide about Automating Wall Openings Percentage in Revit caused a lot of reactions and great questions! The original idea was a proof of concept, with the solution to be adapted to specific cases. We’ve included the modified script in the MANAGE package, which you can download here. GET THE PACKAGE! Watch the video: DEALING WITH COMPLEX FIRE COMPARTMENTS Buildings are complex. They can have multiple compartments for the same walls. Sometimes, the calculated area shouldn’t include a ventilated roof. Jeff had an interesting comment about it: You could come up with some Dynamo gymnasti ..read more

10 Steps to Automate Wall Openings Percentage in Revit with Dynamo

Code requirements often ask architects to calculate the percentage of non-protected openings for each façade. The maximum percentage is typically based on the distance from the property line. I have seen multiple architects and designers “manually” calculate this value by drafting filled regions on the top of the elevation. We’ve developed a workflow that automates all of this work. It involves a Dynamo script, a generic annotation family, a few shared parameters, and a schedule. Here is a gif that previews this workflow: You can see that the user adds windows on the south elevation. The Dyn ..read more

9 Steps to Renumber Doors by Room Using Dynamo

Manually numbering elements such as doors is boring. By using Dynamo, you can automate the process. In this example, we have doors with random mark values unrelated to the rooms. After running the Dynamo script, the doors automatically acquire the “To Room” value and add a unique letter suffix. Before going through all the steps, check out Pamphlet #29. This free PDF guide contains everything in this post, plus extra information about the Dynamo player and renumbering furniture based on rooms and levels. Model Groups are crucial to model multi-family housing projects in Revit. Recently, we’ve released a guide containing good practices with Groups. The problem with groups is that you cannot schedule elements that are part of a specific group. By using the power of Dynamo, you can easily add unique parameters to group parameters, allowing you to easily schedule, sort, and filter everything from a specific unit type. Do you want to download all Dynamo Scripts included in this post? Do you want a PDF version of this guide, with extra content about automating groups? Use the link below: Watch the ..read more

This post includes 3 scripts you can download to automate interior Design in Dynamo. These scripts were created by Bill Carney and included in his LinkedIn Learning course called Revit and Dynamo for Interior Design. Bill discussed these scripts in a recent episode of Revit Pure Live: Make sure to download all the required custom packages for Dynamo. Also, script #3 requires a custom node you need to install. Follow the instructions. Finally, it is recommended you get familiar with the script by trying it in the sample file provided. Thanks and good luck. EDIT: we’ve added a video tutorial o ..read more

This post is an excerpt from our new MANAGE learning package for Revit. You can download this entire post with extra free content by using this link: Dynamo is a visual programming platform for Revit. Typically, programming is done with text. Visual programming replaces code with nodes and wires instead. In the end, you can achieve the same result by building a custom add-in than a Dynamo script. In the image below, the Visual and Textual programs both accomplish the same thing. In this chapter, we will focus on modifying parameters and information. Revit + Dynamo Tutorial - Colored Revision Clouds
Revit Pure » Dynamo

Today, I’ve received an interesting question from Gerald Castillo, a Revit Pure reader: I really need some help regarding revision clouds. Is it possible to create revisions with a different color for each revision? What I mean is for example for Revision 1 = color red then Revision 2 = Color Blue? View filters would be a great tool for this task, but the “Revision Clouds” category isn’t available there. Which leaves us to use Dynamo. If you know nothing about Dynamo, have a look at our MANAGE learning package for Revit. It includes a long chapter about Dynamo. One of the Dynamo videos can be ..read more
