Every year, more than 250 college players are drafted by NFL teams. And every year, a handful of players who didn’t hear their names called at the draft wind up making a larger impact than their more highly regarded peers. Undrafted free agents emerge from the ether each summer to outplay veterans and drafted rookies alike on their way to spots on the 53-man roster. These players will fill rotational roles, emerge as starters and even play their way into the Pro Bowl or All-Pro teams. Finding the right piece of wheat among the chaff not only delivers a useful starter who can lift a team but a ..read more

Former USC Trojans running back Reggie Bush will soon reunite with the Heisman Trophy that is deservedly his own. Over a decade ago, in 2010, Bush forfeited the trophy that he earned in 2005 due to receiving “improper benefits” while at USC. But now after spending far too long away from the award he worked so hard to receive, the Heisman Trust informed Bush that he will receive it back on Wednesday. The Heisman Trust cited “enormous changes” in college football that went into the decision, per ESPN. This is something fans have wanted for years, but especially after new NIL policies became ramp ..read more

5 impressive plays from Arch Manning during the Texas Orange-White spring game

During Saturday’s Texas Orange-White spring game, all eyes were on promising quarterback Arch Manning. While the next quarterback prospect of the Manning family won’t start for the Longhorns this fall with Quinn Ewers still on the roster, Arch Manning still made some really impressive throws during the spring scrimmage. Even an incompletion from Manning that went right out of a receiver’s hands still looked like a mighty fine pass. While we’re still a ways away from the Arch Manning era at Texas, he’s still showing why he’s tracking to have an exciting future in the Lone Star State. Let’s loo ..read more

Jim Harbaugh got a new tattoo to commemorate the undefeated Michigan season

New Los Angeles Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh is taking a little bit of his final season at Michigan with him to California. Indeed, Harbaugh recently got a tattoo to commemorate the Wolverines’ undefeated campaign that ended with a national title win that read “M 15-0.” Honestly, this is a much, much better idea than those folks who get those championship tattoos before their team even starts playing that season. Harbaugh did close his time in Ann Arbor on a high note, so you might as well remember that with a display like this. Maybe he’ll get one to match it with the Chargers one of these day ..read more

NCAA's attempt to end prop betting to protect student-athletes is a noble, if futile fight

The NCAA wants to put an end to college prop betting, NCAA president Charlie Baker said in a statement Wednesday. Pointing to the betting-related issues that have popped up in sports in recent days, Baker said the NCAA is drawing a line “to protect student-athletes and the integrity of the game.” To do that, he said, the organization will be contacting state officials where college props are still offered and asking them to remove those markets. Though the latest bad press on betting has followed Major League Baseball and Shohei Ohtani, as well as the NBA, the NCAA has faced its own issues in ..read more

Deion Sanders is putting the NFL on notice. He has an idea of where he wants Travis Hunter and son Shedeur Sanders to be drafted in 2025, and if the wrong teams take them, “it’s going to be an Eli,” he said. Sanders was a guest on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast when he predicted Sanders and Hunter would both be top-four overall draft picks, with one going No. 1. But he cautioned about the possibility of that changing based on the teams picking. He has destinations in mind for them and his other son, Shiloh. “I know where I want them to go. So, it’s certain cities that it ain’t going ..read more

Nick Saban's concerns about NIL are valid but also exactly why he needed to go away

Nick Saban was critical of the current state of college athletics Tuesday during a Capitol Hill roundtable discussion about name, image and likeness (NIL), blaming what he called a “free-agency” transfer system and “pay-to-play” model for impacting the development of student-athletes. Saban said that while he’s not against athletes having an opportunity to create a brand for themselves, the system in place is part of why he decided to retire from college football in January. “All the things I believed in for all these years, 50 years of coaching, no longer exist in college athletics. It always ..read more

Iowa State athletes may avoid charges in sports betting probe because agents were way too thirsty

The Iowa State gambling probe might have finally reached a conclusion last Friday after a Story County prosecutor filed a motion to dismiss charges against the four athletes still under scrutiny. The dismissal came after defense attorneys for the athletes presented an email that showed the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation may have obtained its evidence for the charges unconstitutionally. The motion may ultimately end what Iowa State wrestling coach Kevin Dresser called a witch hunt last May after the school self-reported the violations. It validates his opinion by demonstrating the unre ..read more

Over 10,000 players have opted in to be included in EA Sports' College Football 25 video game

There’s been debate over the upcoming EA Sports College Football 25 video game — particularly on whether athletes should allow EA to use their name, image and likeness. The company began getting athlete approval at the end of February. EA offered the student-athletes a one-time payment of $600 and a free copy of the game in exchange for their likeness. That’s where the debate came in. People questioned whether that was enough. A one-time payment isn’t very much considering that this game will use the players’ likenesses in perpetuity — at least for this iteration. Related Why college football ..read more
