Astray Fire (Timo Rova/UDSA Forest Service) This week, four new wildfires were spotted in and near to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Efforts are underway to contain the blazes, while the Forest Service has now closed entry points, lakes, and campsites in response. Firefighters are working to suppress and contain the fires. There are also multiple fires burning across the international border in Quetico Provincial Park, including a pair of fires totalling about 175 acres near Burt Lake. Submitted by: Joe Mattson and Mikki Hartman-Mattson We put in at Fall Lake, and spent the night next to the Back Bay portage, then we went through Back Bay to Indiana Lake for the second night. The third day we traveled through Wind Bay to Wind Lake for the last night and then over to the Moose Lake public landing. Caught a nice bass on Indiana Lake and a good size Walleye on Wind Lake. We will put in at Moose Lake entry point next to the Boy Scout Base Camp on Tuesday afternoon September 8th. By Ryan Fagan I have been paddling softwater lakes and slow rivers most of my life recreationally. I live on a medium lake in upstate NY and I frequent many lakes in the Adirondack region. Recently, I have introduced my wife, daughter (4), and son (2) to canoeing.
