Brazilian archer Luciano Rezende won a spot for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games at the Fazza World Ranking Tournament in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Rezende earned Brazil’s place in the recurve open men’s category after finishing first in the last qualification tournament. The international archery federation, World Archery, named Marcus D’Almeida as the best overall athlete of the year 2023 during the Indoor Archery World Series finals. The Brazilian and current world number one in the recurve men’s category was crowned World Cup champion for the first time in his sporting career last year at the grand final in Hermosillo, Mexico. Americans James Lutz and Brady Ellison won the Indoor Archery World Series this weekend. The World Series finals were held in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, February 3 in the main arena of the Vegas Shoot. World Archery Americas has announced the winners of the Americas 2023 Best Archer of the Year Award. One of the names that resonates in these awards is the current number one in the recurve men’s category, Brazil’s Marcus D’Almeida. D’Almeida was crowned World Cup champion last year in Hermosillo and also won gold and bronze in the second and fourth stages of the World Cup circuit. Alejandra Usquiano of Colombia took her first gold in the Indoor Archery World Series on Sunday by defeating Mexico’s Andrea Maya Becerra 146-143 in the compound women’s final. “It has really been a great tournament,” commented the Colombian. “Now onwards whatever comes next is going to be much better.” It was a close match that Usquiano was able to take advantage of in the fourth end, where she took a three-point lead that she held until the end of the match. World Archery Americas has announced a series of webinars for judges throughout 2024. The seven sessions will be in both Spanish and English and will cover topics such as: new rules, procedures and judges’ roles in Target, Field, Para-archery and special events competitions.  It is also planned to have sessions dedicated to talk about the direction of shooting and the work as chief judge.
