With spring sewing in full swing my kids have been wanting more fun and bright prints, but they also want to be comfy. My kids have been living in athletic sets, so I decided to give RCF swim a whirl to see if it passed the comfy kid test! I’ve found that finding athletic fabric in the prints that my kids love can be trick sometimes. Once I made the first set, they were hooked! It’s the perfect amount of stretch & weight for kids. For this set I used the Smile Checker Print Fabric from the Bright by Brittney Laidlaw collection, and I had one happy girl! I love that Raspberry Creek has SO ..read more

I began a research deep-dive in early 2023 about machine embroidery. It felt like the next phase in my sewing journey and I loved all the designs I would find online. In August I started a new job and one of the first questions my new boss asked me was “do you happen to do embroidery, like logos and things?”, call it fate! I found an excellent starter machine, a Brother SE625 refurbished on eBay and started off just adding our company logo to a variety of fleece sweatshirts, beanies, t-shirts, etc. and learned tons along the way.  Recently I thought about allllll the RCF In my stash and t ..read more

I’ve sewn three sets of dance costumes over the years and this time was much easier/smoother/happier than the previous times! One of my girls’ instructors asked if I would sew costumes for the newest dance team at our studio.  I strongly encouraged her to check all of their catalogs/sites for costumes but she couldn’t find anything that fit her vision. Like many of my fellow sewists, I love gifting handmade items to my friends and family during the holidays or for special occasions. There is just something so special about watching the joy and surprise on the receiver's face when they open their gift. I truly do enjoy and get excited for those moments! I love the planning of the gift...from choosing the materials to finding just the right project that fills a need of the recipient. But sometimes, circumstances don’t allow for a lot of planning. Have you ever found yourself needing a last minute gift? Or you had the best of intentions and rea ..read more

It’s that time of year again…where I sit and ponder how to wear something Hanukkah-related and still look stylish and fun. I stocked up some amazing Hanukkah fabric from RCF and set out to make a little capsule wardrobe that I could wear day or night, jeans or pajamas, lunch to dinner. All the patterns you will see came from Petite Stitchery!  Of course, every holiday closet needs the perfect lounge set. I used Hanukkah panel fabric in cotton spandex french terry to create the Ryker Raglan and Hanukkah stripes in double brushed poly for the Dash Sweatpants. Nothing says “sit back and rel ..read more

Have you ever heard of the term “Chain Sewing”? I didn’t until I moved to the Mid-West a few years ago. Okay, I have to tell you a quick story, I moved a few years ago here wanting to learn how to sew clothing. But it was a struggle to find fabrics (except at Joanns). So, I spent a couple of months hopping from fabric store to fabric store only to find that the popular sewing hobby on this side of the United States was quilting. Now, I LOVE a good quilt and I can appreciate the artistry of turning fabric into an elaborate blanket that can be used for years to come. BUT it’s really wasn’t and i ..read more
