On a chilly morning in September myself and fifteen other freedivers boarded the boat St Cuthbert’s III at Seahouses harbour. We were bound for the Farne Islands for a days diving with the resident Grey Seals.
Once on board the boat we settled in for what was to be quite a rough sail across to the islands, our destination was on the northern side just offshore of the island called Harcars. On the final approach to our diving spot we were greeted by the sight of around twenty seals basking on the rocks and as we glanced around we would see little heads peeping curiously at us from out ..read more

Blue Shark Freediving Trip 2021
We are running a Blue Sharks Freediving Trip 2021 and snorkelling trip on Thursday the 5th and Friday the 6th of August 2021. Last year we had great success both days, all of the pictures are from that trip.
I have once again picked the time of year for the most likely opportunity to spot them.
Freediving Itinerary
The rough itinerary will be to meet at the Mountbatten dive centre in Plymouth for around 0730 with ropes off on the pontoon at 0800 so likely accommodation the night before is recommended. It takes around an hour and a half to get to shark site at w ..read more

The Farne Islands is along the Northumberland coast. This North East coast of England is stunningly beautiful. White sandy beaches, a castle or ten, a large bird population for twitchers and underwater it is beautiful too. Orange and white soft corals, forests of kelp swaying in the tide, a number of wrecks that have fish life taking residence in them. The biggest draw though is a colony of around 6,000 Grey seals.
I have been going on and off for nearly 30 years, and organised many trips there. Why is it the view of UK diving that it is cold, bad visibility and uncomfortable?
I think the peop ..read more

Freediving German deep pool (20 metres) and Christmas Markets
We had a fantastic trip to Cologne and Siegburg in December. 6 of the club went to pave the way for future trips there and the place was amazing. The diving pool was clear, plenty of space and you can spend all day in there. It was 26 degrees so a wetsuit is recommended but makes it a comfortable day in a 3mm. We had plenty of time to increase confidence for the newbies, get some training on courses out there, and for the experienced members it was play time in the sunken city, down to the bottom of the pool and through the swim th ..read more

Interview with Matt Malina
Interview with Matt Malina by Steve Millard
Hi Matt, could you give us a brief introduction for those who may not know you please.
I am 34 years old and I am from Poland. I am freediving for almost 12 years now, but I was aware of the sport since I was about 15 years old. As for achievements in freediving the list is long but let us keep it short, because anyone can google it if he is interested.
I have set 7 World Records and five World Champion titles. I can breath-hold for more than 10 minutes, dive more than 310 meters in dynamic and dive below 110 meters ..read more
